I have washed, shortened and put up four curtains, vacuumed, cleaned a window and tidied up a bunch of random shit. I feel like I deserve a treat but am not in possession of any and cannot justify the purchase of some pretty plates and bowls just because I want a treat! Fuck!

@sinituulia I'm living quite a bit more South than you and here people say that it's useless to wash windows before June due to all the pollen that hits us mid April to end May. I hope you won't get that problem. :D

@tuxedocomputers sorry to be negative, but I would love to not to have to change batteries once every year though. :(

@tuxedocomputers yes, I have, I exchanged the battery once already. The current one is at 54% health after a little under two years.

I doubt there's anything you guys can do, except source higher quality parts. :( I'm resigned to it.

#Jolla unveils new Community Phone📱

At the #JollaLoveDay2 event a new limited edition Community Phone was announced, showcasing the latest #SailfishOS. It can be pre-ordered and the limited batch will be delivering in August. The package includes a 12-month Sailfish OS subscription. An extension of the subscription can be purchased after 1 year for future software updates (but isn't mandatory).

@sailfishosnews currently I'm wondering if Jolla can sustain the update frequency to justify a monthly 5EUR subscription.

In case you didn't know:
The metalhead.club rules forbid bots. But there is one exception:

@releasebot

...which posts the metal music releases of the day :)

You might want to follow it to keep up to date. The bot was written by @mariusor 👏

mariusor,
@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

I have sad news about it @thomas, Cloudflare has decided about a week ago that the scraping the bot is doing on the Metal Archives (which is very gentle in my opinion) was still too much, and we don't have access to that source for the moment, I'm thinking about an alternative, but until I do, we're showing only the results returned by Wikipedia. :(

I am blown away by #Jolla's new subscription model... I can understand why it is necessary, but at this point I would go with #PlasmaMobile with #PostmarketOS: open source as I wish #SailfishOS was

mariusor,

@poetaster @ilpianista is there a way to build packages for sailfish os that do not involve OBS in some form?

Is there a wiki somewhere for getting started ?

In my attempt to wean myself of cloud music services, I've been delving through the game OST list I have, and a relatively recent addition really hit it out of the park.

A fun mix of cyberpunk Ghost in the Shell influences with a dubstep beats, on top of definite NIN and Mick Gordon Quake and DOOM FPS roots:

REVEL - Sprawl OST

It's a bit outside of my usual tastes, but it is very fun and I think it matches the game to a T.

Part of my frustration with and one of the things I find baffling giving everything else in it: the lack of tools for backpressure.

Backpressure is fundamental in building reliable distributed systems (c.f., Notes on Distributed Systems for Young Bloods). From a C2S perspective I get why it wouldn't need to be specified, but from a S2S federated protocol perspective its absence is frustrating.

All that it says is to take care not to overwhelm others and a bit on rate limits

mariusor,
@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

I'm not sure if this is what @julian asks about, but this would be an example of what I meant in the post mentioned by @jenniferplusplus:

https://federated.id/objects/2e6cf5a8-ffa8-4fca-b4cd-8e0c9a584a75/replies

You can see the list of replies fully (the public ones at least), and some of them have inReplyTo attributes that reference multiple objects. This is done to have a way to reconstitute the reply tree structure.

@mikedev

@julian sadly that's the case for most fediverse software at the moment. :(

I'm going to Paris in a couple of weeks for #OW2con and trying to get excited about stuff to do in Paris but failing. Any suggestions on how to get hyped about this trip?

Challenges include: being gluten free, not being able stand or walk at museum speed for very long, needing to avoid COVID, not liking superciliousness or disdain, thinking most France-adjacent movies are sexist garbage, and being far too large to buy most French clothes :)

mariusor,
@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

@vaurora even for areligious people I would recommend 20m of basking in the Sainte-Chapelle stained glass light.

A stone throw away from Notre-Dame de Paris, less conspicuous in the court of the Justice Palace, it could be less popular than other touristic places in the city. (But then again, since Notre-Dame is closed, it might be the only thing to see on Île de la Cité, therefore swarmed)

@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

Bought a new phone to install Sailfish OS on it.

It comes with Android 14.

It's baffling to me that most people are willing to suffer all the craptitude that runs by default on Android. I had to skip and disable at least a dozen services and apps immediately after the first run setup. It's gross and I don't like it.

#android #sailfishOS

mariusor,
@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

@soulsource not my experience.

mariusor,
@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

@soulsource I don't know why you're trying to convince me.

I've been using SailfishOS as my main driver since Jolla launched it.
I ran it on the Jolla 1, Jolla C, Xperia XA2, Xperia 10 III and I never had bugs (or big enough issues) that made me feel the same level of frustration as 30m on a fresh Android has.

mariusor,
@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

@soulsource I could find my bank's application in the Aptoide store, but due to the run environment not being "secure" it means that I need to do the full 2FA authorization for every time I want to run it, which is not entirely worth it, so I default to the browser also. :D

1️⃣1️⃣ Here's the 11th installment of posts highlighting key new features of the upcoming v256 release of systemd.

There are multiple network management services in popular use on Linux. In systemd we ship systemd-networkd, and of course think it's the best choice. Weirdly, some people disagree though, and that creates problems of ownership: you either have to use one or the other network management service (i.e. either systemd-networkd OR NetworkManager), or you have to carefully make…

mariusor,

@pid_eins does it add also a Want= dependency on the service that the NET_MANAGED_BY points at?

Or starting that service is still left to the user?

UCI really screwed things up for ergonomics when they outlawed recumbents in the 1930s.

"The press coverage kicked off a long-overdue conversation about women’s saddle issues and aired one of pro cycling’s open secrets: that some women suffer so much damage to their genital areas they resort to surgery—labiaplasty—to keep riding."

https://www.bicycling.com/health-nutrition/a60412469/cycling-saddle-pain-women-surgery/

So it is the Giro de I T A L I A and Discovery/Eurosports in their coverage for the entire continentg switches to a rpost-race show with only B R I T S quarreling with each other.

How about some locals, there are many italians quite good at cycling, and they look great on TV too. Or someone from other nations?

mariusor,
@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

@T72s_velo_pink_tank sadly it's not Eurosport that handles the broadcasting but Discovery+/Time Warner. They have the Breakaway in English and Velo Club in German (at least where I'm at).

For the Italian panel you can probably visit Rai Play (I say probably because I can't view it due to geo restrictions and what not).

mariusor,
@mariusor@metalhead.club avatar

@T72s_velo_pink_tank
Even in the pre TimeWarner days, Eurosport was not the place to go for cycling comment in the native language for any of the big three tours due to the talent not being up to the same level that the national televisions had access to.
