The YT app on Apple TV is really testing my patience. Besides the super annoying pause screen that kicks in now, and the screensaver, it resets your place in a list every time (e.g. going through your watch later list, or videos from all your subscriptions). If you play a video, it always resets to the top of the list when you back out to the list. I hate this behavior in any app. 😡

@jezlyn I was wondering myself if there’s a way to turn off the screensaver. It just seems like a strange decision, surely an idle state should be handled by the system or TV, not by the app? Maybe they got tired of people complaining about their place being reset since their resume implementation sucks so much

The that I share with you all today is a very special one.
It is the Hydra by Antigua's, a small Spanish maker.
I received this pen and a Jose Munuera nib as prizes in a solidarity raffle.
The beautiful resin and perfect balance of the pen combined with the line variation the nib is capable of make for a truly unique writing experience.

@greene safest is to carry them uninked, but if they’re inked it’s probably still fine if you keep the nib up during ascent. You can use them once you’re at cruising altitude.

@penfount My mother: “fountain pens? You mean those pens we used to use in school that leaked all the time?”

Though I have sent them cards written with calligraphy FPs and they were a bit shocked that I had handwritten them. As a kid, my handwriting wasn’t anything to write home about (pun intended).

This is, hands down, the most beautiful in my collection at the moment. It is a Ryan Krusac Studios Legend L-16 "Kraken" fitted with a Fountain Pen Revolution 14kt gold Ultra Flex nib with an ebonite feed and inked up with Namiki Blue. The scrimshaw body is naturally shed moose antler (not something I'd usually be into but it makes an amazing canvas and feels lovely), the cap is Bolivian rosewood, and the section is ebonite. I am madly in love with this pen and so happy I added it to my collection.

@aj most definitely not what I would be into but the craftsmanship looks amazing.

I have the same nib in a Retro 51 right now. Great nib but a bit difficult to control, definitely for short sessions of lettering rather than pages of writing at a time.

Pelikan vs. Modern Pelikan

Comparison between Pelikan 140 (c. 1960) and Pelikan M400 (c. 2010), both green-striped.

The color of the 140 has faded from age and sun exposure, but you can see that near the section, there is about a centimeter of stripe that would usually be under the cap and wouldn't be exposed to direct sunlight. So the color there is actually much closer to the modern M400.

What I think this means is that when the 140 was new it would have looked much like the M400 does now, and the way that Pelikan made this material hadn't changed for over 60 years until the change to opaque material a few years ago.

@lepapierblanc yes, the old Pelikan has a translucent barrel.

Edit: OK I understand, you meant that no ink level indication is the biggest issue with the current opaque barrel Pelikans, right? I agree. And the weird thing is that there is a way to solve it, they used it on the opaque black Pelikans… an ink window. But they didn’t add that when they switched to opaque barrels on the striped pens.

air travel with a #fountainpen : i have a trip scheduled in the near future to a conference in Salt Lake City, #SOTMUS2024 - and i expect to take a pen or two with me. the feeling i'm getting is that the thing that works with converter pens and piston fillers is to travel with them filled, or at least with the piston positioned where there is little or no air left in the reservoir. opinions?

@jimp there’s also a clipless version of the A1, that’s the one I have. Or you could try a Décimo, the clip on the Capless and A1 doesn’t work for me, but the Décimo clip is OK. I guess because it’s thinner and more flush with the pen.
