Thank the lord for Tish James. If you look at the research she did into this bond it made my head spin and I'm a math teacher. She understands all of these fancy finance games, and I guess you'd need to do her job in NYC. We have the worst/best "banking wizards" sometimes they break the laws of physics, sometimes they just break laws.

This bond is a stinker. I wonder what Trump promised the guy to let his company implode as sacrifice to avoid the full fee?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/letitia-james-says-company-put-162203280.html?fr=sycsrp_catchall

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@futurebird Thank you for the clarification. That was the point I poorly expressed. While they told the court that the bonder had access to the account, it’s not restricted cash, and, as you state, the money can be cleaned out. I also didn’t see a mechanism enforcing the affirmation that the balance always be above 175m.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@futurebird The thing that was filed is a bit hand wavy. The bond company, as pointed out elsewhere, is not promising to pay. It affirms that Trump’s Company will pay via a Trump Co Schwab account that will have 175 million in it at all times and for which some amount of ownership is given to the bond company. What I didn’t see (or misunderstood) is if Trump Co still owns that account on a joint basis. Also lost in the shuffle is that an appeal loss will cost Trump Co 500 million plus.

Happy !

I'm still not onto Black history. I'm still on white US history.

Q: Why were Black folk so happy when OJ was acquitted? To be honest, it feels disgusting. Why does it seem like you're happy he got away with murder?

A: Racism. Black folk did not like OJ that much. In fact, many Black people think he did it. Black folk didn't "celebrate OJ." Black folk celebrated the hope that a brutally unjust, evil, and racist system, could be defeated at all.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@mekkaokereke @phaedral Honest in my embarrassment, I saw many posts in the thread, but only glanced at the first two or three. From those I picked up a general theme about sloppy reporting about what the black community of Los Angeles was thinking about Simpson and the trial. I agreed with that as making sense.

It was the end of my lunch break, so I apologize if not reading completely meant my comments were redundant.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@phaedral I’m not going to try to change your opinion. My opinion is informed by having served on a couple of juries in Los Angeles. I think that jurors are surprisingly diligent and not sloppy about some distinctions.

At one trial in which I served, the testimony of the police officers was the weakest part of the prosecution’s domestic violence case. We found guilty but, in my opinion, mainly based on a photo and the defendant’s poor performance on cross.

I wish I could travel back to 1967 to tell these kids their songs will be used in commercials for children’s crackers and finding someone to fix your toilet.

Talk about going down a rabbit hole.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@hotdogsladies And I’m no Vanilla Fudge.

Though looking at my band name, one might guess I’d want to be Credence Clearwater Revival. Uh. Look at those clouds.

I always liked the SF music and scene. I read every BAM that made it to the hallowed halls of KCSB-FM.

In Santa Barbara, at university, in the 70s, at the student-run radio station, if one was open, one got the music flows from north and south, from rock and not-rock.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@hotdogsladies Maybe I’m biased or ignorant, staring at the SF scene from Santa Barbara and Los Angeles as I have (I was 10 during “The Summer of Love”), but I believe those bands were more mercenary than their lyrics and vibes suggested.

My wager, on a clearly impossible bet, is they would welcome your news from the future.

Shoot, I clearly can’t be in it for the money, yet I’d feel good if a time traveler reported my brothers’ kids are seeing money for one of my little tunes.

Hey friends: Can anyone recommend a decent basic text/rtf editor for iOS? I've been writing a lot on my phone lately and Notes just isn't cutting it. Minimal data scraping is ideal, and I don't mind paying a little if needed.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@trixter Good news, rtf is an export option. Just verified that here on this iPad. Slight hiccup in that it’s send and export, so you might have to email it to yourself.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@trixter Another suggestion to try Pages.

It is included with iOS, so if it works for you, then no money out. If it doesn’t there are things to escalate to.

I’m writing lyrics, so I write on the Mac, refine on iPad while looping track sections on the Mac, and use the iPad as the “lyric sheet” while tracking the vocal. (And, in a crunch, sometimes the phone.)

I love this spicy take on Rick Rubin from Jacob Collier:
“Rick says things like ‘art is only pure if it’s made for only art’s sake’. Absolutely false.”

Thank you for saying it out loud! I hate collaborating with people when they get all precious and start spouting this nonsense. Rick’s cool AF, but his ideas on creativity are nothing more than fun theories. They aren’t rules at all, they don’t apply to every project, and you can definitely ignore them.
https://musictech.com/news/music/jacob-collier-rick-rubin-disagree-creativity/

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@fadersolo @elsemusic I don’t. Whether he’s wrong or right, Mr. Collier made a rookie mistake and gave a writer an opportunity to transform the interview into a catfight between successful people.

(As a side note Mr. Rubin’s definition of pure art seems reasonable, but ultimately the question being begged is that pure art has intrinsic value for being pure, whatever that would mean.)

No one is wrong here. Mr. Rubin has a world view with which he functions successfully as does Mr. Collier.

Is there a way in to make the right Super (aka "Windows") key behave like the left one? It would be nice to be able to lock the screen with one hand. Besides, I have zero idea what the "right Super" is even supposed to do on Gnome, because it doesn't obviously do anything except not act like a Super key.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@vwbusguy I suppose it would be wrong of me to start a rumor that it’s future function will be “AI take over and I’m out.”

I have used graph/network theory, geometry, trigonometry, numerical analysis, and set theory for art and work.

Can’t say I’ve ever used data science. Or is that a buzzy term for statistics, in which case I have, but, they already knew how to teach that, so what exactly was designed?

Thinking about confidence values in stats, i.e., how likely is it one picked a bad sample set, there’s algebra down there.

So, on the rigorous (10) to glib (0) scale, down by the nils.

I used to love playing this game in the before times.

Give your name as "Spartacus".

Wait for your name to be called.

Step forward and loudly proclaim, "I'm Spartacus!"

A couple of times people caught on and also stepped forward and said, "I'm Spartacus!"

Once, I tried it and someone behind me said, "More like Agador Spartacus, gurl."

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@WolfIsMe I’ve been tempted to offer the name “Man-killing Hector, Breaker of Horses” as Dan seems too common.

But it seemed time to come up with art work.

Did this one years ago. The GarageBand digital file is misplaced, so if I want to put Sinner Man on Album 11 (Tentative title: The Serfville Monad and the Pluperfect People) I best be starting from scratch. Here's a performance from Christmas 2011.

Stevie Wonder released more virtuoso level songs in 1972 than most musicians manage in an entire lifetime. He was absolutely on fire in 1972.

pomCountyIrregs,
@pomCountyIrregs@mstdn.social avatar

@djsundog 1971-1976, the absolute best.

And Paul Simon, when thanking people for Album of the Year, 1975, added a thank you to Wonder for not putting out an album that year.

In Los Angeles the radio stations playing what would be called classic rock would heavily promote the new Stevie Wonder records.

(Needless to say, of course, he’s not in the playlist for the classic rock successor and survivor stations. And the reason why is infuriatingly obvious.)
