@thewildforest When you migrate to a new Mastodon instance, you keep your followers automatically. You can manually move your followed accounts, mutes, blocks, and bookmarks by exporting the CSV files on the settings page of your old instance and then importing them on the settings page of your new one.

IMO the strongest argument in favor of defederating from Threads is Meta's truly awful track record for moderating harassment and hate speech towards marginalized groups. It would be considered unacceptable by the standards normally applied between Mastodon instances; I don't think it deserves special treatment because it's owned by a massive corporation. Quite the opposite, really.

@sarahv Exactly. And federating with Threads means opening users up to potentially massive amounts of harassment from people/groups like that, far more than even the biggest Mastodon instances would have the capacity to moderate effectively

@sarahv I have been friend requested on FB by multiple bot accounts pretending to be my grandpa. I always message something like "Hi! To prove you're not a bot, can you tell me how I know you?" and then they don't respond and then I report them. No idea whether the reports actually do anything 🙃
