I checked out #threadsapp for a few minutes. It's basically Twitter. My suggested feed looked nice enough but I didn't see it filling a niche I haven't filled here. Except people I know IRL are on it. And I'm never gonna be the one to convince them to leave where it's easy to be. I've learned that lesson a million times over the years.
I do hope it federates eventually and I can connect to them. But it's already uninstalled.
Meantime, I left a bio with my address here. #threads#federation
Here's an interesting approach to dealing with #Threads. We will be looking at this as an option for the #SubduedSocial server. If anyone else on our server has strong opinions about how to handle federating with #ThreadsApp, please let me know!
My wife is looking forward to deleting her Instagram account once she can connect with the same folks from her Mastodon account. Being able to remain in touch with over 100M people who still use Meta products out of the comfort of an ad-free, privacy-friendly platform like Mastodon is a game changer.
I'm not sure about a lot of the different things I have been hearing lately when it comes to #Threads opening up to #TheFediverse . But I do understand a lot of the trepidation and concerns.
One of the things I love best here is that there are no ads, no algorithm pushing trolls & ads into my feed, no one tracking my data, etc. And now it sounds like those are going away?? (At least partially.)
I would appreciate your authoritative and informed opinion on this RT of a toot from @mastodonmigration .
almost 9 years later and I'm still passing around Casey West's "Durable Communication" post as the gold standard on advice for leading distributed teams. (Any #perl folks know if cwest is out here in the Fediverse somewhere?) http://caseywest.com/durable-communication/
@dimillian the article speaks of “new rules regarding user consent and data protection” as one reason why it was delayed. The rule to not mix data from different sources without consent (or a damn good reason) has been the law here in the EU since 2018. That’s hardly new @verge 😉 Combining Instagram data with new Threads data is simply unlawful over here without asking people first, if it’s okay. Crazy, huh? 🤔 #gdpr#dataprotection#privacy#threads#threadsapp
For any of you out there who want to connect with me in a slightly different Twitterlike fashion... I'm also on Bluesky and Threads. (And technically "X," but I'm not at all active there.)
Scrolled a bit through #ThreadsApp just now. The #meta (haha) posting seems to have died down. At this point I’m maintaining the account as a starter list of normies and Brands™ once the service opens up federation.
@ricmac I don't know what it could mean but am reading as much as possible about the consequences.
If the #threadsapp posts look like Masto content because of the protocol, then that will mean more user content in the #fediverse but what's in it for Zuck? How does he monetize it?
For many folks like me, it's technically confusing.
I'm quite enjoying #mastodon.
