Finding it surprisingly difficult to get worked up about the google anti-fraud nightmare surveillance robot today. 10 years ago I would already be on the phone to my senator, but after a decade of helping folks out post-compromise and just generally following the infosec news, I am tired of how privacy activists just … don’t engage with the very real threats that these very problematic tools are addressing. Basic account security is a total nightmare for laypeople and it’s getting worse.

Even though this sounds ragedy as fuck, I'm happy how it's turned up, I don't really want to mess with it for risk of making it suck and miss the point completely. Too much delay, too much distortion. Cool.

I'd describe as dark, brooding, psychedelia melting down over militant drum machines. If that's your bag, feel free to load up.

I'm a simple person who could never be a highly paid web design tech brah. I could never invent a #film festival website that lets you split the films to see on venue and competition strand but not date.
But anyway. #Fantfest in #Bilbao is coming soon. Good films to see, if you have every day from the 4-11th May free. Can't tell you what I might watch though.

I've seen it elsewhere too and it baffles me. Do the designers not have obligations on different days? Am I the weird one for thinking I'll go see something at this festival, don't care what, I'm free on Tuesday?

So Poor Things is a good film but my Godwin Baxter there are so many annoying choices it has made as regards the source material. Folk are right to complain about that.

  • Emma Stone, v good.
  • music, suitably Weird, liked it very much.
  • no one was available to coach Willem Dafoe's accent into shape? At least he tried.
  • generic Hipster Tall Thin Words for your intertitles when working from a book written by a visual artist with a style consistent over 50+ years? That's A Choice, as folk say.
  • Invent an unreal world and boldly proclaim your unrealness but centre it on London instead of the Glasgow that is infused in the book? Cowardly. Adds nothing of value. Takes away distinctiveness.
  • Furious jumping.
  • Strongly suspect that the memorable turns of phrase are from the novel and the swearing is not. Perhaps it's part of the characters being extracted from their setting (as rudely as the brain from a foetus in a drowned woman) but they don't swear very convincingly.
    ~ is it just me? A Duncan Wedderburn could only be from Scotland. Likewise a McCandless (sorry, McCandles). So why the generic Posh Brit accents (rhetorical, I know why).

(So, Yes, I have watched it and concluded much the same as I did after the original PR push...)

I did the dumbest little project tonight. I find it amusing that my European colleagues don't realize that their country is basically the size of Indiana.. or Tennessee or some other state that they can't find on a map. So I pulled the data to determine which state is most like which country. My 3 metrics are: population, land mass, and GDP. I have the data cleaned up. So maybe now a simple Shiny app?

What should I do with this project?

I really have a problem with this type of reporting. I got my first records in 1983/84, bought my first CD in 1988 and they sit on shelves in my home still, they haven’t been disposed of and they are far from being single use plastics. While billionaires continue to cross-cross the globe in jets, treating the earth as a disposable asset, I don’t think I should be guilt-tripped into listening to less music. Get stuffed. #music

Correct me if I’m wrong, but World Central Kitchen was responsible for the much-written-about maritime aid corridor from Cyprus. Israel has targeted WCW aid workers, murdering seven. WCW has halted its operations in Gaza, because… well because Israel murders their people. So Israel has shut down the maritime corridor a few weeks after it started by murdering those operating it. Do I get this right?

The barbarity of Israel’s violence is indescribable, while the complicity of the West continues

priryo,
@priryo@linernotes.club avatar

@msteenhagen
I don't know what it's been like in anglophone media but this was well known in Spain. A few weeks back the chef who started WCW was all over the national news talking about getting the aid corridor started and filling the Open Arms boat etc.
There is no way in hell this wasn't calculated, either the target or the timing.

(I said it would end in another Gaza flotilla massacre and I like being right in general but would prefer to be right about nice things or stakeless things.)

    When the last RUBBER DINGHY arrived on the shore here with 30 people onboard, soaking wet and freezing after a 30 mile journey across open water, we took them a load of band merch t-shirts so they had something dry to wear. We went to the chippy and got as much chips and bottles of water as we could.

    Why? Because we're not total cunts. I'm tired of this 'small boats' bullshit. It's not WW2 and these people come in RUBBER DINGHIES.
