Bathrooms should be divided into assholes and not assholes.

run_atalanta,

@StillIRise1963 I'd like the restroom separation of "I care enough to keep things clean and clean up after myself" and "hurrhurr, watch your step so you don't slip"

It's so weird that we are all supposed to be ashamed for burping and farting. I deeply apologize to everyone for keeping my body from literally exploding, so uncouth.

run_atalanta,
@run_atalanta@pgh.social avatar

@fmhilton @RickiTarr Interesting thing I experienced....

The saying is "even if you try to hold it in, the body will emit it, somehow."

My partner would have bouts of terrible gas, and me, eating the same had-producing foods: Nada -- not a fart, not a burp.

I got diagnosed with Leaky Gut.
After many months of diet/prescription gut supplements, one day I burped for the first time in.....years. Also suddenly farting became a real thing. I would actually experience gas pains!

Farting = health

Ooh, I think I actually got a customer at my Not-A-Licensed-Free-Library! (missing a cookbook!) Restocked it with a few more books. Looks like I need to lay over a supply of books for refilling the thing.

run_atalanta,
@run_atalanta@pgh.social avatar

@ai6yr I've gotten behind in my library stuffing, but during COVID I started buying YA books from non-white authors, reading them, then dropping them into neighborhood LilLibraries. I figured this benefitted the author a lot too.

StillIRise1963, to random
@StillIRise1963@mastodon.world avatar

I have this thing going on in my yard. After some trees were cut down and a big rain happened, there seems to be a hole in the ground with water pumping up through it. There’s now a small stream and moss growing on the rocks where it flows in front of my fucking carport which I can no longer use. I’m having it looked at in the next few, but wtf.

run_atalanta,
@run_atalanta@pgh.social avatar

@StillIRise1963 Any chance it's a broken water line or (worse) collapsed sewer pipe? I had the bottom of my water meter blow out from too high water service pressures, which cause a water feature at the bottom of my driveway that grew algae on the sidewalk. It took literal months to get the water company to shut it off, and that was after they left a shutoff warning because I was wasting water! 🙄

run_atalanta,
@run_atalanta@pgh.social avatar

@StillIRise1963 Fortunately for me, the meter was in a pit near the street, and not located inside a building. The contractors for the gas company that replaced the sidewalk after gas main replacements -- cemented in the tube for the water shutoff. That was quite a trip thru local municipal finger-pointing.

@Catawu, my friend, you always have some good leads. I need a palmetto bug (aka big-ass cockroach) trap that actually works. Ever heard of one? The retail stuff I’ve tried is utter crap. I swear, I think the roaches just point at them and giggle to themselves.

Most people who know the term "booting" a computer assume the term comes from "kicking" the system to get it going -- as you would do with a physical boot.

However, the actual term comes from the old phrase "lifting oneself up by one's own bootstraps" -- which is how a computer bootstrap loader actually works to start a system running.

run_atalanta,
@run_atalanta@pgh.social avatar

@lauren that may be an age thing - modems were bootstrapped in the analog days of yore.

Make them pay TAXES and take away their JETS. TAXES and JETS.

run_atalanta,
@run_atalanta@pgh.social avatar

@StillIRise1963 step #1. Like the Nike ads: just do it.

Then make them pay their employees fairly. If they claim they're not employees (so the company doesn't have to pay employer things like soc.sec.), then remove any tax breaks and non-profit status for businesses larger than 100 employees.

Because I know the typical small business with 5-50 employees is still paying all kinds of local (real estate, school, etc) taxes and fees to their municipality+.

My partner got bent at me for being hostile to the staff of a store when we'd walk in and someone would rush to the door with a supercilious "may I help YOU." "No. NO, YOU cannot."

I pointed out how they didn't do this to the well-dressed customers, they just smiled and nodded at them. He never noticed the difference in the past, because - privilege.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a printer. I printed everything for my school clubs and had such a.. passion for it.

Lately I’ve discovered that I dont want to pay for the poor print quality that’s also expensive to produce and ship, I’ve been having fun learning to do large format printing at my city-run darkroom and digital lab (Harvey milk photo center in San Francisco).

This was a poster we bought the digital download for, then I printed, for a gift for a friend (who sells chai)

A photo of the printed poster in a large 16x24 size lying on a table, slightly curled

run_atalanta,
@run_atalanta@pgh.social avatar

@skinnylatte I am from the film generation. Commercial Printing in those days was also film based with etched plates and water-relief inks. An awful lot went into printing back then, so skills ranged from the darkroom thru the press operation. I know art school still teach moveable type lithography as part of learning the history of art, I havenkt heard much about wet plate printing getting the same love.
