Cutting down on unnecessary meetings can boost focus, efficiency, and innovation. Streamline channels and give the time they need to dive deep into and deliver outstanding results. The easiest way is usually to drop daily meetings if those are only about "What have I done yesterday?"+"What I will do today?". A good manager/lead should know the answers to these questions without a standup meeting.

ORMs can be helpful for rapid development, but as projects grow and evolve, they can become a double-edged sword. Dependencies, bottlenecks, and loss of control over optimizations can hinder mature projects. Striking the right balance between abstraction and direct interaction is crucial.

Working in a team on a complex project w/o an ORM is much simpler than w/ it.

setebos,
@setebos@mastodon.online avatar

@MarcinW while ORMs may offer raw query capabilities and query previews, concerns about performance bottlenecks and loss of control over optimizations can still arise. the statement holds true as managing complex projects without an can often be simpler than with one.

to address your skillset point - why would you want to limit your hires by requesting ORM+SQL knowledge when you can only ask for SQL?

@Stark9837@techhub.social avatar

What is your favorite #Python #ORM for #SQL and #SQLite? I am currently looking for an ORM judt to sinplify my implementation.

I am considering going for SQLite because the writes and reads are low, and the total size will also be a few 100 records, but I want the strengths of SQL. Also, I am running it in #Docker, so it simplifies the deployment.

I am looking at #SQLAlchemy and also saw #Peewee on #Github.

This is the first time I am doing something like this. Normally, my data is simply printed to CSV files.

@setebos@mastodon.online avatar

@Stark9837 for a small project it's not that important. both and will do the work for you. The limitation will be on the SQLite side

Ryan arrived at the premiere of "Barbie" in Los Angeles wearing a stunning pink suit, and around his neck, you could notice a pendant in style, but with the number 3 in honor of his favorite version.

Question for :
Getting tired of my version that relies on different versions of Python modules than the ones I need for coding…

What is your favourite for Python (and why?)?

setebos,
@setebos@mastodon.online avatar

@alaudet @elduvelle yep, VSCode and PyCharm are 2 top picks for

setebos,
@setebos@mastodon.online avatar

@elduvelle @alaudet i prefer PyCharm. because it was released way earlier than VSCode so there was no VSCode option when I chose one.

But I see a lot of devs who prefer VSCode.

Without going into too much detail, my thesis was criticised for developing a web service with C++. I It was questioned why I didn't use or for the web service. "It's not performance critical" said the professor.

Dude, have you used the internet lately?

EVERYTHING is performance critical!

This sort of teaching explains why most aps/websites run like absolute dogshit.

Why is never an academic criteria?

I wish @cmuratori could see this...

setebos,
@setebos@mastodon.online avatar

@fell @folkerschamel on ;) because why not :D

the answer will be

from ultrafast_package import fetch_100_sql_records_in_json

print(fetch_100_sql_records_in_json())

if it is so critical for your core app you can write that package in C or .

Money is critical in the real world, not performance. If it takes 1 year (200k) to make a super-fast feature using C++ or the same thing on in a week (for 1k + beat competitors and 199k on marketing) guess what choose

setebos,
@setebos@mastodon.online avatar

@folkerschamel @fell With something like simplejson it can be even faster, esp on a larger set.
