I've been putzing around with this textbook for several years now, explaining why the OSI Model is obsolete. It's not accurate practice, it's not theory, it's not even helpful, but people don't understand it well enough to understand what's wrong with it. In over 200 pages, I explain why it needs to be completely abandonned, except as a historical footnote.

I remember working at my beach place a year ago, on a conference call. At the time, I still mostly used Twitter and had notifications enabled on my phone. During my meeting, the notifications stated going crazy. I opened my phone and saw dozens of people talking about joining infosec.exchange, recommending people join infosec.exchange and so on.

The server was all in one on an AX101 Hetzner server (amd 5950) that I thought would never need to be replaced. It did quite well, performing admirably for about another 3 weeks, at which point my life outside of work mostly pivoted to being a mastodon admin.

After those 3 weeks, it was a mad scramble and hard lessons in scaling out and scaling up on the cheap.

And here we are. Over 60000 people have joined, over 18000 remain active in the time since.

I am very glad to be part of the community and appreciate the patience you’ve all shown.

We installed flex posts to help dumb drivers not enter the Valencia bikeway. This is a stopgap-- SFMTA has done NOTHING to try to rectify their flawed design, even after the first death. Valencia needs permanent pedestrianization NOW.

When I lived in the UK I went through security clearance and they made me sign something waiving my right to dual nationality. It was ages ago and I'm not really sure what it is I signed. Is a dual nationality waiver an enforceable thing? Do I have to undo it in order to apply for dual nationality, or was it more of a "I pinky promise I won't try and apply for a passport while I work for you"?

There’s a new hookah and middle eastern food lounge in the Tenderloin that’s as nice as any I’ve been to in Dubai. It’s called Pasha and the food is great. I’m glad to have more options in the neighborhood that aren’t just basic spots. I really like the flatbreads. There’s also booze and NA options.

(Because this is the Bay Area, the hookah is nicotine-free, but you can get plenty of weed across the street)
