One more from Colorado Springs, city lights and all. Tonight was unprecedented in my experience, never any at all here in over 20 years. This shot is facing south, even, and we are at 38 degrees latitude.

Good now in Colorado Springs, CO. The whole sky is pink.

These are straight out of the iPhone 15 Pro Max from Greensboro, North Carolina. It’s very hard to see the here with the naked eye but point the phone and shoot and WOW!

@gedeonm @ai6yr Same here in Colorado Springs (38 latitude), never even a hint, and then tonight the brightest aurora was to the south

Not quite dark, but we have faint in Colorado Springs, CO right now. It’s very faint if you look, but pretty distinct if you take a picture.

Ongoing reclamation work at the Pikeview Mine in Colorado Springs, CO, which operated from 1903 to 1918. Huge amounts of material are being brought in to restore and stabilize the slope, which will eventually be planted with native vegetation. You can see a section of the burn area from the 2012 Waldo Canyon fire. The reclamation work has a website: https://pikeview.org

LA food diary.

Some of you know I’m a big fan of LA food. I think that dollar for dollar you get a tremendous amount of cuisines, varieties of foods, in this melting pot which feels to me like it has far more immigrant and working class food than the Bay Area. Even the density and quality of ‘fancy food’ is high!

I’m keeping a record of my LA 2024 discoveries.

@skinnylatte Interesting - I always consider the opposite with gelato. The brighter the pistachio green the faker the pistachio gelato.

Are there any films or TV shows thay you found interesting but don't necessarily want to revisit?

uguisubari,
@uguisubari@m.ai6yr.org avatar

@Adam_Cadmon1 The series “Six Feet Under” is like that for me. It’s an excellent, unflinching drama, with a great series finale, that I can only live through once.

@thomasfuchs We have lived to see miracles created. We have also lived long enough to see Matt Damon first artificially aged, then actually aged, but all the while trapped in World War II (?). We are lucky.

Pikes Peak has had a unusual amount of snow this year, and a month ago was sitting at over 190% of normal snowpack. Not my department, but perhaps there are some intrepid skiers out there noticing a rare line of snow from the top to treeline on the east side of the peak. This is the side that faces Colorado Springs, you can always check out the conditions up at 14,000 feet while you drive to the grocery store or whatever. My guess is things could be a wee bit sketchy on snow that freezes and thaws every day, but that’s why skis have edges, right? Photo from today taken at the most popular Garden of the Gods & Pikes Peak overlook.

@ai6yr They are a bit crazy, especially if you miss seeing one and get hit through a running shoe at speed. The spines are impossible to ignore (in your toes) but can be so fine they are difficult to see (to remove from your toes). But look at these other more cute critters…
