As part of their aggressive attempt to get people to replace their old headsets, Facebook's Quest 1 headsets, released in 2019, will be barred from purchasing any app on the Quest store released after April 30, even if that app would have supported the Quest 1 when sideloaded.

The aggressive deprecation schedule really makes me baffled why anyone would trust Facebook with their money here. This is a novelty/nice-to-have device, not something you upgrade every 2 years.

    Has anybody else noticed that Mastodon has suddenly stopped working correctly in older browsers today? In Opera 89.x all of the images are broken, and in MyPal (based on Firefox 68.x) all I get is a blank screen.

    Yeah, I know, security updates, moving on with the times, etc... but if YouTube, Twitter/X, eBay, Yahoo, Patreon, etc., and tons of other major web sites still work fine in these browsers, I don't see why Mastodon can't. Hopefully this is just a temporary bug.

    Just got the worst targeted ad of my entire life. Pulled up YouTube and got an ad for my ISP. Specifically my ISP's fiber service, talking about how much better it is than cable. I have the fiber service. It should be the easiest thing in the world to microtarget this one. The one single piece of information you know about me for absolute certain is I am requesting the ad from an IP vended from this ISP's fiber block

    The taxi service in Toronto is called "Beck" and they have a ride-ordering app which every time I use it I am just amazed by how bad it is and how it has never got any better over the many years I've been living here (and in fact seems to have got a little worse)

    I always of course have a lot of time to think about this as I stand for 10-20 minutes by the side of the road with the app from the moment I tap order showing the cab is "1 minute" away, unable to use my phone or the app will crash

    Oh wow I thought it was weird that the Oldest House in Control is in New York City as opposed to somewhere like DC but this seems to make it pretty obvious they just based it on this actual real-world building in NYC, a 30-story brutalist skyscraper with no windows whatsoever which was revealed by the Snowden disclosures to contain NSA work sites https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF4EUM8CwT4

    I have 25 (twenty-five!) MiniDV tapes of used car ads in Spanish, recorded in 2003-2005, from a Nissan dealer whose managers got arrested for fraud. I'm thinking of gradually uploading the content of them, including bloopers and outtakes.     Anyway over the course of an hour shortly after getting up this morning, this one guy replied to 8 of my posts here with incredibly abrasive comments about "systemd", a thing I only barely care about at all. Seven of his replies berated people for using systemd versions of Linux (IE, the standard versions) and the eighth berated someone for using Microsoft Windows. It was too much. It was just too much

    Say I have a teflon pan, and I use it a lot for a long time, and eventually it starts to look like the teflon has been gradually flaking off. If I continue using the pan am I like… at risk of poisoning myself? What are the potential consequences of the pan having Flaked
