A question for folks who have socially transitioned- which is about 90% of my timeline lol- looking back, what were your most important milestones? Like, were there any specific things you did or accomplished that made you feel "yes, I am making progress in socially transitioning, this is totally happening"?

Logic Pro is still resetting my audio interface every minute or two. The logs show various bluetooth devices doing things, even though bluetooth is off. There’s also various audio subsystem logs that give no results when I search for them. I guess the next step is to try it with a different interface and see if it does the same thing.

@zombierustpunk whenever that happens to me, it’s because the interface firmware is out of date and the sync keeps breaking. Hopefully it’s a cheap fix, whatever it turns it to be

@zombierustpunk ohhh, yeah there’s no firmware or driver for that on mac. Yikes. Sonoma must not be playing nice with some usb interfaces. There’s all the usual checks (turn off all power saver/sleep options, direct connection to computer usb port, check sample and bit rates) but I’m guessing if you want to use the behringer you’ll need to revert the os to last working one ☹️

Sometimes it will just strike me that for the longest time, the Democratic party leaders were all in their late 70s/early 80s, and most of them are still hanging around. If you buy into generational definitions, they actually predate the Boomers. It's like we've been governed by the Nephilim or something. Amazed their bills weren't written in Enochian, earmarking funds for "location and procurement of golden fleece."

I’ve mentioned a couple of times here and there about an annual challenge that’s coming up next month.

So in another step to prepping for it, i got some new strings and last night, I strung up one of my guitars. I even got some strings for my old A-style mandolin. See?

Haven’t played her in a lonnng time but what the heck. I might try and drag her out on one.

@Terra @WrenArcher oh!! It’s funny, I never thought about it like that. It’s a 4 string bass that’s double-strung with guitar strings. It’s a nightmare to tune and I’m not completely sure why I have it. But my brain couldn’t handle 8 separate strings on anything!!

i am legit curious to see what happens with steamboat willie. i always found disney's original creations to be inert and flat, i wonder if there's really anything to mine there.

Happy to stand corrected when someone publishes their 1000-page epic fanfic graphic novel about Steamboat Willie making one last trip down the Mississip, visiting former loves and lives at each port, finally arriving at the delta where a disorienting disneyworld-like city has been built, and he decides to take his steamboat out to sea, never to return

I'm seeing all the ML engineers in my lab leap directly from "LLMs can look up stack overflow answers for you" to "LLMs can do 90% of our coding for us." I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum from the SWEs, but jeez, show them some respect. At least more respect than you're giving a box of numbers that uses the latent space for high throughput plagiarism

Just an advisory on outreach using masto:

Not too long ago I put out a call here asking if anyone knew of a particular invite-only discord server. Some very nice folks boosted me and I also did some reaching out on my own. I had no luck, and my therapist ended up leveraging one of her contacts to get me an invite.

Once I was on, I saw that several of my mutuals were active there, and in fact one of my mutuals owns the server. I don’t think anyone was keeping things a secret, I think they just didn’t see my post. I’m not shocked- there are downsides to not having an algorithm- but it was still a reality check for me in terms of what this place is good at and not so good at

@kass yeah, I have a hard time even discovering that a server exists, let alone get an invite. It’s like it’s the 18th century and I’m trying to join the Freemasons or whatever lol

Honestly this goes for mastodon too. There are awesome servers (mine is perfect for me) but you’d never find them on most of those directory sites. As you say, there are reasons, but it still sucks!

What was the moment when you knew you needed to start transitioning (whatever that means to you, I know it's different for everyone)?

P.S. Obviously no one owes anyone answers if it makes you uncomfortable, so please feel absolutely no pressure, or if there's a better way for me to ask this question let me know, I'll edit.

@RickiTarr I like how you phrased this, I usually see it asked as "when did your egg crack?" which doesn't apply to everyone.

I knew I was trans before puberty, but I actively hid it from everyone for my own safety. I also had a lot of denial, but I always know who i was. But over the years, I just become disconnected from everything and everyone. My marriage, work, my mental health were all starting to fall apart. I only felt happy when I presented as a woman. I would obsessively look at transition timelines on reddit and twitter, even though they would fill me with so much envy and sadness that it was physically painful. Finally in Spring 2019 I realized my life as it was had run its course. I found a therapist who specialized in gender and I spilled my guts to her, the first time I ever told anyone about this. I didn't need anyone to tell me I was trans, but I guess I needed someone to say it to in a safe environment. I suppose that was the moment.
