Congratulations! I got a diagnosis this year with 36. It really made so many things make sense. And it really made me less anxious.

It's good to hear people are getting the help they need.

HandsHurtLoL, in Started first ever activity log after diagnosis, and oh my god

I was diagnosed with ADHD a little over 10 years ago, and I'm now in a job where I actually feel like my neurodivergence threatens my productivity. I've been dragging my feet finding a doctor and getting another Rx, but I really need to get it done.

No one ever asks me what living with ADHD is like, but I keep picturing that cold open from Malcolm In the Middle where Hal comes home and sees the garage bulb is out. But to replace it, he pulls out the ladder, which he then realizes is wobbly and unsafe. So he goes to the tool drawer in the kitchen to get the screw driver, but realizes the action on the drawer is sticky. So he goes to the pantry in the back of the house to get the WD-40. Meanwhile, now Lois comes home and sees this string of half-started projects strewn about the house and yells to Hal to ask what he's doing, and now he's so perturbed, he yells back in annoyance: "I'm changing the light bulb, what does it look like?!" or something along those lines.

That's almost exactly my experience.

Yes, that's exactly the feeling. https://youtu.be/AbSehcT19u0

I hope you are able to find a doctor and get some relief.

dilligasatall, in Today I made ice for the first time in 3-4 years

Two small wins for me today.

  1. I managed to touch the neighborhood stray cat this morning. “Smokey” (named by someone else) has been a stray living nearby for at least 5 years now that I know of. She will not let anyone close to her, but I’ve been working on that for the last while now. After countless bags of treats tuna and ham, I’m the only person she trusts enough to get close to and she even comes running when I call her. (Expecting treats of course.) She still takes offense to me trying to pet her, but we’re working on that. (I can’t home her as I have several cats already, but at least I can try and make her semi-comfy as she is getting old.)
  2. I managed to germinate a couple peach seeds, and planted them today. I’ll probably end up killing them by over or under watering, but for now I consider the fact I got this far great success.
fiat_lux,

Those are huge wins, congratulations! I have spent many hours trying to make friends with random cats too, it's so good to have your patience and bribery finally pay off like that.

Is there a “good” way to reach people in that situation?

Say, "Hey [insert name]? Can I have your undivided attention for a sec?" Do not proceed until they are either looking at you or giving you sure signs that they're ready to listen.

Oh how clever I think I am until I need to be just that clever again later.

Congratulations on the win!

fiat_lux,

Thanks! I wasn't looking for it... I had previously tried at length unsuccessfully. But at least I now have ice and memory of another "oh I should keep these tiny loose screws and things secure" box.

I forget that too. I think I'm "being too lazy" on days off, when I'm actually relaxing my brain.

drailin, in When’s the best time of the day to take Strattera?
drailin avatar

I have been on it for a couple months now (went from 25mg to 40 to 80) and was told to start taking it at night, because it can make you drowsy, then work towards taking it in the morning. When I took it at night, I had really weird insomnia, waking up at 3 or 4AM and not being able to go back to sleep, so I pretty immediately switched to the AM, but like @cleverfunnyname said, you should ask your Dr. and adjust accordingly with their input.

klinkertinlegs, in At 32 I've finally gotten an official diagnosis.

I got diagnosed at 36. Not super responsive to the meds, but I also can’t take a high dose. It did help my anxiety a lot though, both the meds and also knowing that I’m not just lazy.

engityra, in At 32 I've finally gotten an official diagnosis.

My husband only found out he has ADHD at 46. Suddenly a lot of stuff is starting to make more sense to him about why he has struggled with certain things throughout his life. The meds have been helping too. Hope you get the help you need!

When I first realized that ADHD was a potential cause, it was like a light turned on. I watched some videos on symptoms to see if it lined up. Let me tell you, it is surreal hearing strangers describe your life to you. Glad he could get it addressed.

Congrats! My partner is currently waiting to get tested for ADHD after realising at the age of 34 that maybe she has it and it's not just other problems or incompetence.

Getting checked is the first step. I hope she gets some answers soon.

I was diagnosed at 34. It was pretty much an entire year of a mixture of relief and disappointment that it took so long to get the care I needed to help me manage the symptoms. Glad you have your answer, finally! Now have fun getting yourself educated AF about it. You got this!

Nice, congratulations! Hopefully you find it helps! How long until your Rx is available?

I'm waiting for an appointment with my psychiatrist to talk about what would work. Hopefully in 2 weeks I'll start and I can begin the process of dialing in a dosage.
