In case it helps some folks empathise:

Over 7,000 Matthew Perries have been killed in Gaza this month, including over 3,000 baby Matthew Perries.

@aral We are no longer permitted to be :

"Since 27 October at about 18:00, contact with the Strip has been cut off, following the shutdown of , and services. As a result, this Flash Update contains minimal updated information about the humanitarian situation in Gaza over the past 24 hours." -

danielhz,

@aral A question is how many people will be killed before governments and people supporting this genocide reconsider their support. How many killed Palestinians are enough for them?

danielhz,

@aral Today the number of killed people in Gaza is over 10 thousands. For some people, it is still not enough.

I am proud of the Chilean government's condemnation of Israel's attacks on the Palestinian population and recalling of the ambassador. Gabriel Boric said, "As President, I do not hesitate for a second to condemn in the strongest and most categorical manner the Hamas terrorist attacks (...) but we do not accept being made to choose between one side or the other, we choose humanity."

Christofurio,

@aral Could you BEEE any more quantitative? "Over 7,000 Matthew Perries have been killed in Gaza this month, including over 3,000 baby Matthew Perries."

rjohnston,
@rjohnston@mstdn.ca avatar

@aral And there are probably over a thousand "Matthew Perries" currently trapped under rubble that nobody can help.

kaoliva,
@kaoliva@mastodon.online avatar

@aral It does not help me as it's just stupid to compare deaths. It's also very one sided and, while we're at it, what's with the rest of the world where each and every year thousands die from war, terror, death sentences, starvation?

aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

@kaoliva Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

BenBen,
@BenBen@chaos.social avatar

@aral While we are on it: Let's talk about the Matthew Perries in Sudan, Jemen, the turkish bombings in NE-Syria or the earthquakes in Afghanistan. Oh, and all those drowned Matthew Perries in the Mediteranian…

dimkr,

@aral Can you share your sources or evidence that supports this statement? Many news items from Gaza are written by Hamas

aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar
TiZed,

@aral So 1300 Israelis dead and 230 abducted (actual, verified numbers) don't count as "Matthew Perries". Why? because they are mostly Jewish?

aral,
@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

@TiZed Hey anonymous person, I have an idea: how about you take your antisemitism accusations and shove them up your ass?

I’ve condemned Hamas’s savagery in the strongest possible terms. That doesn’t mean I will turn a blind eye to Israel’s savagery.

Think carefully if you want to redefine antisemitism to mean opposing war crimes and the murder of civilians. Because that’s what you’re doing. And that’s very dangerous. Remember the story of the boy who cried wolf.

rubberkeys,

@aral excellently put.

@aral i have to confess i have been struggling a bit here lately. All the Eurocentrism of Mastodon now manifesting itself in many uninformed, hubristic and frankly awful anti-palestinian posts. And everyone convinced they are on the moral high ground, of course.

alx,
@alx@mastodon.design avatar

@pvonhellermannn @aral it's an interesting phenomenon that you are perceiving much of these posts, as in my home timeline instead I've been seeing a very mix of posts that don't fit in one polarised narrative. I actually also found a lot of in-depth discussion of Jewish and Palestinian people reflecting on the events with a lot of self criticism and introspection. And a lot of calls for ceasefires. Really really a lot.

pvonhellermannn,
@pvonhellermannn@mastodon.green avatar

@alx @aral that is very true, and important to add. I have found all this, too. It is just that there is a certain type of unreflective and ignorant statement, perhaps quite a few in German, coming to think of it, that maybe i am particularly sensitive to as a German myself and that has really been getting to me (as I grew up like that, too). But yes, you are right, many other perspectives here too.

alx,
@alx@mastodon.design avatar

@pvonhellermannn @aral Thank you for sharing, just to clarify, I didn't mean to downplay or say that your experience and perception aren't true, and I saw others making similar claims on the discussion around here. I'm just reflecting on it because instead this isn't my perception, not because I haven't seen anti-Palestinian posts (or even antisemitic, for that matter). It's just that I can't say they are the leading discussion, bc my TL is much too vary for even making an empirical observation

hananc,
@hananc@tooot.im avatar

@aral Also, thousands of Matthew Perries from Gaza that worked in Israel when the war broke are incarcerated in Israel, about 1,300 Matthew Perries were killed in Israel and 250 Matthew Perries from Israel, including babies, were kidnapped and are held in Gaza.
