Well y'all, after a couple of false starts, I have successfully blown away the prior Ubuntu/Windows 10 dual boot setup on my ancient PC laptop, and replaced it with Bazzite. Bazzite is apparently a gaming-friendly flavor of Linux, and looks a lot like the Linux flavor on my Steam Deck.
It took some patience and tweaking, but now the system is successfully booting into the OS. Steam and Lutris are confirmed present. And I'm installing Skyrim as we speak.
The big hilarious question to answer here will be, will I actually be able to run Skyrim? And if so, will I get the same hilariously bad FPS I got without mods? We're talking 8-15fps right around Whiterun, LOL.
@kyonshi Neither had I until I saw it mentioned in a recent toot containing some modern flavors of Linux that folks can consider if they wanna switch off of Windows.
Skyrim is bonkers shit. Just met a bear in a cabin by the river and I got its health down to where it had run off so I had a little snooze in the bed. Imagine my Goldilocks ass surprise when I wake up and the bear is back in the cabin awake and pretty pissed off. #Skyrim
I have restarted #Skyrim again for the umpteenth time as a break from #Fallout and #BG3 but still scratching that fantasy, elves and dragons and shit, itch. I'm playing as a Khajiit stealth archer (imaginative I know) but I'm just about to start the companions quest line, except that will make me a Werewolf Cat.
I could've probably had the whole series of "The Real Barenziah" about 100 times now, but this one seems to be unobtainium. Where the heck do I find the other parts of this masterpiece? 🥴 #Skyrim#GamingOnLinux#gaming
In which Kendeshel defends a mad mage in the sewers beneath Solitude; also fights off two different dragons in the city; marries Rulnik Wind-Strider in Riften, and settles her family at Proudspire Manor; helps the East Empire Company reclaim Japhet's Folly; and acquires the Arms of Chaos to display with the relics in her museum.
You'll probably want to choose either ENB or Community Shaders for shaders. It's pretty much independent of everything else.
Important things some of which I'm not sure whether they count as "too obvious" or not: SkyUI, SmoothCam, True Directional Movement, Precision, Violens, Faster HDT-SMP, Nemesis, Bodyslide, MCO, dyndolod
Quests and gameplay things that I can recommend as being worth a try: Plilgrim, Clockwork, Extended Cut, Chanterelle, Forgotten City, Sirenroot, Hunterborn, Animallica, Convenient Horses, Vokrii, Surival Mode Improved.
There are so many skyrim mods to chose from... I didn't even get around to mentioning the texture replacers, lighting mods, sounds, character models, AI improvements, bug fixes, game balance fixes, etc.
Anyway, I just like to install a few at a time each with each new game. I'm only up to about 300 mods, so just getting started really.
In which the Dragonborns raid the Thalmor embassy, with very messy results, but get the information they rampaged in there for; and in which they rescue Esbern from the Ratway in Riften, and escort him back to Riverwood to rendezvous with Delphine.
Long overdue Skyrim Together post from early December.
@dimillian I have bought that game 4 different times on different platforms, across many years. I recently picked it up on the steam winter sale for my steamdeck. That game rips.
I tried. I really tried. I AM managing not to loot every piece of armor and sword, but damn. The food, and the books, I just can't stop myself. I am pretty sure I am carrying around a grocery store and a library.
@Dennis5891@kinsale42@natejung My library is in one of my many homes in Skyrim. I'm carrying a bunch of cooked meals because the hubby has made some fantastic food for me! Aside from my weapons, I'm a walking reagent, potion, and restaurant establishment.
In which Finds-The-Way learns how to find an Elder Scroll from a mad mage; slays a wave of frenzied mudcrabs in Dawnstar; is kidnapped by the Dark Brotherhood, and then invited to join them; recovers a lost clan sword from Silverdrift Lair; slays a treacherous Argonian in Ironbind Barrow; and takes out the Summerset Shadows to win access for the Thieves Guild in Windhelm.
This is more of my German playthrough of Skyrim, from mid-December. (I'm behind on my posts again!)
