adamjcook,

’s completely unsupported and unhinged promises of future therapies, treatments or prosthetic devices enabled by his firm and this ” humanoid robotics project is pretty damn disgusting.

A new, disgusting low.

Even relative to Tesla’s vast and wrongdoings, which is saying something.

This man lies like he breathes.

@adamjcook What is disgusting about the humanoid robotics project?

@brennansv @adamjcook Guardians of the Galaxy, vol 3 did a pretty good job showing what’s so disgusting about projects and people like musk.

@oleksify @adamjcook I am not sure what you think is being done with that project. This kind of work has been going on for years to allow people who have been injured to use a prosthetic that they can actually control them. This work has long pre-dated anything Tesla has done. And comparing a sci-fi comic book movie to medical research is not a reasonable comparison.

adamjcook,

@oleksify @brennansv It is one thing to perform medical research and trials and to remain hopeful (but guarded) about the results and the patient benefits.

It is quite another thing to make definitive assertions and to lead people, that may be currently suffering, on.

I will wait for a transcript of the call but I believe the wording was that Neuralink and prosthetics born from “Optimus” would give quadruple amputees "an incredibly capable" cyborg body.

Totally unsupportable.

adamjcook,

@brennansv Musk had apparently promised that its robotic "limbs", combined with Neuralink's device would benefit amputees.

I believe this was stated on a Tesla Earnings Call tonight.

He has made other completely unsupported claims in the past with respect to Neuralink.

@adamjcook I just do not see how that is different from the work that many companies and universities have been doing for decades which has helped a lot of people. This is just a continuation of that work.

Here’s a video from 5 years ago.

adamjcook,

@brennansv I have watched this previously.

These are actual devices with proven patient benefits.

Musk is off talking about near-term "cures" for "autism" enabled by and a myriad of other entirely speculative treatments for complex neurological conditions and spinal injuries - all centered on one medical device that has not seen a single human trial.

That is the ugly foundation for Musk's statements - which continue to reach further and further every time he brings it up.

@adamjcook He clearly talks out of his ass a lot. I wish he would have learned much sooner that messaging badly has consequences. But he's now literally paying billions for his behavior. I feel no need to invest my time and energy into paying any attention to him. He craves the attention so I won't give it to him.

But it is a true shame that progress on EVs and advanced prosthetics is tainted so much by his involvement in these industries. I want people to be careful to direct the criticism at him and not the hard work so many people have been doing.

@adamjcook It's the assured destination of narcissists that succeed; lie and manipulate to build your own legend, begin to believe it despite knowing its fragility, and begin the spiral of spewing constant lies and half-thoughts.
