So I'm having to park closer to the wall of our driveway as my Dad now has a Van he uses for work which is taking up room.
Side effect being it was a rather tight squish plugging the cable for my car to charge in.
To resolve this I've made it semi teathered, a few cable clips from Screwfix and a 3D Printed holder for the cable and voila. It actually looks rather neat.
Downside is I need to get a second cable for public charging, which I rarely do.
@adnan Yes and no, I'm not a fan of how we elevate cars in our culture, but most of them are at least competently built. The cybertruck is such a disaster, that it just keeps bringing entertainment to those of us who hated the concept and the person who forced it through from the beginning.
The state of U.S. made EVs remains underwhelming and now looks to remain so for many more years to come. US automakers remain hooked on high margin trucks, and EVs are too often large SUV types or extremely short in range.
I don't want to promote the horrible labor practices that, in part, make Chinese EVs so much more affordable, but tariffs and bans don't seem like the best way forward.
@Defiance@mrcompletely I have encouraged my wife to look at the RAV 4 plug in. She has Highlander reg Hybrid and while it gets insane mileage for such a big car (too big), fully electric option is great and the RAV 4 is perfect size.
Tesla is being sued by the Environmental Democracy Project, which alleges “ongoing failure to comply with the Clean Air Act” at the company’s assembly plant in Fremont, CA. The Bay Area Air Quality Mgt. Dist. previously said Tesla has allowed “unabated emissions” in Fremont. CEO Elon Musk is telling investors these days to think of the company “almost entirely in terms of solving autonomy.”

@bradwilson there are a lot of BYD and GWM/Haval cars on the roads here (australia) these days. of course, we don’t have a local industry to protect - but surely the u.s. would be better off subsidising its own carmakers and exposing them to some competition, rather than giving them no incentive to improve…

@phlogiston This is BEV propaganda. It is blatantly ignoring real problems, such as how "direct charging" isn't actually possible with 100% renewables.
The practical differences in efficiency is negligible, and in many scenarios a hydrogen or (rarely) power-to-liquid solution is the more efficient.

"This means the price of an average 60 kWh battery pack will have dropped from $US6,776.00 to just $3,388.00 in just 12 months, saving EV manufacturers over $3,000 per vehicle."

@lightweight Another thing to consider is that your replacement battery pack is likely to have a greater capacity than your old one as technology progresses.

1 Majority of car exports from China are not EVs.
2 Biggest all electric car exporter from China: Tesla (half of Tesla global production is made in Shanghai).
3 Western companies are selling cars in China: German (17% market share), US (7,5%), Japanese (12%) and Korean, and producing in & exporting out of China.
4 BYD largest exports: Brazil, Mexico, Uzbekistan, UAE, Israel & Thailand.
