If you got upset at me for pointing out that more people died of Covid under Biden than Trump, in large part because Biden rolled back common sense restrictions that were in place under Trump...
Then you'll hate me pointing out that Trump introduced a 25% tariff on Chinese EVs, and Biden is upping that to 100% tariff.
@tojiro@mekkaokereke We’re looking at the #Rivian R2, coming out in late 2025 when our current (tesla) lease is up. And the Rivian R3x looks fantastic, but there’s no build date yet…
All pure-play BEV companies are dying or are rapidly heading in that direction.
I keep on saying that this is not a viable business. BEVs are not the future and won't be anything but a tiny niche. It's entirely a false market created by subsidies, cheap loans and delusions by enthusiasts and investors. Things will inevitable come to an end.
Rivian is not going to live much longer. It only survives due to free cash from investors and subsidies. It will end once that cash runs out. Which is happening very fast...
Re-watching Rivian's R2/3 reveal it really hits me that a central difference between Rivian's value proposition and Tesla's is that Tesla speaks to a person's relationship with their vehicle while Rivian emphasizes a vehicle's role in people's relationships with each other.
Both are totally valid visions but that social quality is an important part of the Rivian brand's differentiation.
Many of us have rightly compared Rivian to Subaru but Rivian is also to Tesla as Volvo is to BMW.
I've always liked the Rivian design and it keeps getting better. The company has a bright future. Ford, GM and Toyota are struggling and talking about falling back to hydrogen. The problem is producing, transporting and storing hydrogen is very costly. There is also no distribution network like there already is for EV charging. Even if hydrogen was on par for cost it would take years to build out a network to support a fleet of vehicles which have not even been build yet. This gives Rivian a huge lead. #Rivian#EV#ClimateCrisis
Rivian has been promising to make a smaller, more affordable electric SUV that will sit alongside pricier R1T and R1S vehicles. The R2 won’t go into production until 2026, but when it does it will come w/ estimated range of 330 miles, a 0–60mph time of 3 seconds, & a starting price of $45K. We also saw the R3 the R2’s “sibling,” & the R3X, the R3’s performance trim which has a wider stance & smaller crossover shape.
