I have never hiked Angels Landing trail in Zion National Park, not because it isn't beautiful (I'm sure it is), but because it is crowded. The line of hikers working their way up looks like a looong line in the grocery store. Instead, I choose to hike trails that few people find because they're not promoted. But they're beautiful. And not crowded.
After reading #DesertSolitaire by #EdwardAbbey & then #MonkeyWrenchGang in '76, we rafted through #Canyonlands in southeastern #Utah. After 8 days of lazily floating under the massive sandstone canyons, we arrived at the confluence of #GreenRiver & #ColoradoRiver & witnessed the immense rapids actively carving the heart of #CataractCanyon. Mind blown & then after the final set of rapids we arrived at a drowned #GlenCanyon 💔 making me a life-long lover of free rivers. 😢 #LakePowell can suck it.
Do any rock glaciers in #utah still contain ice? This would be good to know because these features play an important role in the #hydrology of high elevation environments. For the last several years, I have been conducting repeat GPS surveys of rock glaciers like the one in this photo, and it is clear that they are moving. Fun to be back in the field working with such spectacular and enigmatic landforms. #permafrost#geology#drone
Southern Utah Drag Stars and its CEO, Mitski Avalōx, sued the city of St. George in May after the city denied the group permits for an all-ages show it aimed to host in a public park in April.
🕰️ How the Computer Graphics Industry Got Started at the University of Utah
⎧ In the 1960s and ’70s, computer science pioneers David Evans and IEEE Life Member Ivan E. Sutherland led the development of many of the technologies animators now use. Their groundbreaking research, conducted at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City, and at their company, Evans and Sutherland, helped jump-start the computer graphics industry ⎭ #CGI #Utah #Animation #ComputingHistory https://spectrum.ieee.org/history-of-computer-graphics-industry
