@davemark I have to agree with Zuck on this one, they have totally different approaches, and even the terms they use to describe what is essentially the same concept of : Meta uses the term because they want it to be an interconnected space where users can get together and play/interact.
Apple uses the term as their focus so far is expand your computer use cases to a 3D interactive space - indicating that they see the platform as a next-gen computing experience.

@davemark In my personal use case, I'm more aligned with the Apple vision, however the seems to be enough for what I need to work in , and the will definitely be an improvement at a price I can justify, while the would require I get into the Apple ecosystem (I use mostly Android, Linux and Windows, no Mac or iOS) plus I cannot justify the price of it in my budget.

Dogzilla,

@techviator @davemark I’m wondering what work you’re doing in VR that the Question fills that need?

I’m already in the Apple ecosystem, so the AVP is a natural fit for me. Tried the Quest 2, but it’s not a serious work tool (mainly due to the ecosystem, not really the hardware). I’m not convinced the Quest 3 actually solves any of the issues, so I’m holding off until I see it used for work in the wild.

@Dogzilla @davemark I work in IT/Cloud so all I do is behind a monitor and remotely, I use a VR headset as a monitor replacement via Immersed (VR App), it moves me from my small home office to a great virtual space, either alone or in a collaboration or public room. The reason the Quest 3 will be an upgrade is better optics due to flat lenses, and color and better defined passthrough to better see my keyboard or anything else I need to look at IRL real quick.

Dogzilla,

@techviator @davemark So basically a portable office, not any actual XR development.

This was one of my big use cases. The huge failure is the inability of (all but one) piece of Quest remote access software to handle passthrough on keyboards/mice - can’t remember if Immersed is the only app that can handle this, but everything else requires keyboards to be connected to the computer not the headset, effectively limiting remote work to Bluetooth range

@Dogzilla @davemark Yeah, that's still the case regarding keyboard with Immersed. Both vSpatial and Virtual Desktop have the ability for full remote, but there are still some limitations with some key combinations that the Quest takes as input instead of sending them through (at least last time I tried a year back). But for my use case is not a show stopper as I have my laptop nearby anyway and just replaced the external monitors.
