"...SUVs use on average a quarter more energy than medium-size vehicles. They generate almost 1bn tonnes of CO2 emissions annually – the amount by which we overshot our Paris agreement targets. Their increasing adoption is directly contributing to the climate crisis, according to the International Energy Agency."

@TheWarOnCars and if anyone from the UK is also fed up with SUVs, here's a petition that might be of interest https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/640775

adam,

@TheWarOnCars they're also much nicer to drive!

@TheWarOnCars
Why is it necessary for EV makers to slavishly copy IC style SUVs ?
To be effective EVs need to be smaller, lighter and use fewer resources than their predecessors.
We don't need EVs except as a stopgap - we need fewer cars and cities designed around people.
Parks not car parks.

@TheWarOnCars

They also tear up the roads. A 5000 lb SUV does ~12.9 times as much road damage as a 3000 lb Honda. (Damage is relative to the ratio of the weight per axle raised to the fifth power: (25/15)**5 =~12.9)

@TheWarOnCars What would this crackdown propose for those of us that drive an SUV because of the need for a wheelchair hoist in the back? You can’t fit a hoist to a saloon or estate.

Oh right, I forgot the ableist world regularly ignores our needs and wishes we would go away.

@TheWarOnCars Quickest way to reduce the numbers? Make it hard/illegal to have an SUV on a lease contract. If people had to pay for them they'd soon go out of use.

@TheWarOnCars “These hulking vehicles are lethal to pedestrians, disastrous for the environment and have no place on our city streets”

arvi1000,

@TheWarOnCars They are hard to avoid for regular consumers looking for a family car. If SUVs are 90% of what's available, a lot of people will end up buying them. I hope we solve this at the regulatory level rather than just hoping people will not choose them
