The heat index that kills. I fear this year will be the year where heat index will cause food crises or derail the world’s factory for months. Not only the phones, tvs, toasters, ans washing machines, but the manufacturing machines and all their components in production and maintenance.

Will it be a trigger point that causes a major shutdown of the world economy for months on end?

@GhostOnTheHalfShell Continued economic growth is causing the inablity to have even more growth and will shrink the economy and kill people and animals. Nothing else has seemed to get sufficient attention of the world's politicians and people.

@tmstreet

40% of food and goods produced end up directly in the trash bin. Rich economies don’t need growth and would not for a long time.

One way or another that problem will be solved.

brinnbelyea,

@GhostOnTheHalfShell It's important to distinguish between heat waves and wet bulb events. A while back there was a heat wave in Europe. Tens of thousands died. The world treated it as no big deal. In 2022, it happened again. Again, no big deal.

In a wet bulb event, the heat index rises to where no person can survive. This is estimated to happen at somewhere between 30-35C. Not just the old, the sick, the young, the weak, but everyone will die without access to air conditioning.

@brinnbelyea

yep. Well aware of it. Posted a couple of videos on the topic a ways back.

The business world will care when the world’s factory (Asia. China, SE Asia, India) seizes up in the face of it or in combo with food system collapse.

Which Europe and the Americas will see (see last 5 min or so of below). At some point Modernity will lose too many Janga puzzle parts and large chunks of the global system will shut down. Modernity is highly interdependent.
