I would love to start developing for smartphones, creating a proper #emacs client totally reimagined for the smartphone is long overdue and a project I could really sink my teeth into. You know the popup keyboard on your phone? You think Steve Jobs invented that? No he didnt, Richard Stallman did, it's called a minibuffer. Emacs was doing all this stuff in the 80s, and way better, even.
But I can't help but hate all the frameworks surrounding mobile development, ie React Native, Swift, Flutter etc, but also from my experience as a user, the apps I've tried that were made with alternative #fp frameworks like #LambdaNative, which had to downsample and skew the resolution to fit my phone's screen, so it didn't seem to even feature responsive design; maybe ok for the hospital software they designed it for but not something for creating applications that the people will use out of their own volition.
I'm pessimistic that "there is no alternative" but seeing how nicely #FDroid is coming along, I'm hoping that I may be wrong. Is there anything promising out there in the #mobile#gui#foss space?
@rml since the last week, the current iteration supports file loading, and there's a chance that it will support saving within a few days, so things are getting seriously serious :)
(and once I implement the ability to scroll through documents, it's likely going to become Actually Usable)
#emacs really like the second feature offered, which is the ability to drag the buffer name from the bufferbin sidebar to the desired window. Imagine having multiple window split and just dragging a buffer into one of them. If there’s a time to use a mouse with emacs, that might be it 🫢 https://github.com/blueridge-data/bufferbin
@ctietze Yea I've been really really busy today so I didn't have time to write it yet but I have the docs open in the right place to insert stuff so I can get the context before writing it. 👍
@mykhaylo@jameshowell Somebody suggested I look at the tutorial docs (they gave me a link) and then I can write what I want to add and they'll submit it for me. So I’m gonna do that soon (Already pulled up the section I think it should be in)
I just don't know if I'll have time for it today but I'm gonna give it a shot. 🙃
#emacs package persist-state 0.3 available on (stable) MELPA.
This package regularly saves your Emacs state (bookmarks, history,
recent files, etc.) when idle for a brief moment. In case Emacs is
idle for a longer time, no state is saved.
Version 0.3 adds support for regularly saving your buffer positions using the builtin saveplace package.
In case you didn't know, the combination of #emacs, #elfeed [1], and #elfeed-tube [2], turns #emacs into a powerful and featureful, RSS-based interface for watching #youtube on your terms.
If you are sick and tired of #youtube not showing new videos from the channels that you follow, then give this setup a try. I'm loving it.
Emacs does just about anything! Get the most out of #emacs with GNU Emacs Manual, Nineteenth edition, for Emacs version 27.2 from #GNUPresshttps://u.fsf.org/3ff
