@Leisureguy@FediFollows@barbarakb that’s it! ty @FediFollows for clarifying. I couldn’t trace who had the directory based on hashtags in bio. but, I wonder if it’s worth the effort? Also, I totally understand why search done the way done here in Mastodon but... it makes it harder for new people to find community.
The person who runs fediverse.info is a nice person who does a lot on the Fediverse, they created Pixelfed for example.
Personally I'd say it's worth the effort to find community on here because it tends to be a nicer community which engages more meaningfully. You tend to get nicer conversations on here compared to centralised algorithm-driven networks like Twitter and Facebook.
@FediFollows@Leisureguy I’m the epitome of internet patience. I’ve been here for four years. That’s not the issue nor is it for most people who decide to join. I understand but disagree with how search is done. And it will change just as it has always changed.
Different platforms and forks and individual servers sometimes have a different attitude and approach to search.
There was one large Masto server that implemented an unofficial full text search, which was popular with some people but hated by others. One widely shared comment said it was encouraging "reply guy" posts from people they'd never interacted with.
So... I'm not sure if there is an easy answer for this. I hope you find what suits you :)
@FediFollows@barbarakb@Leisureguy and the only stories about search at Masto that are told are the “negative” ones. and the positive ones are not told because positive doesn’t get reported about except in silence: that it works (like it does on most other places on the internet) or in silence, as new people leave Mastodon.
