faab64, The first aerial view of the floating port, which will allow the United States and others to flow ,"humanitarian aid" to #Gaza via the sea route, as the United States claims. It says that the sea off the coast of #Gaza complements the role of land crossings and is not a substitute for them
They block 1000s truck fully loaded with food, sanitary material, medicine and clothes from entering Gaza but pretending that this port is going to be used for sending aid to Gaza.
The disgusting hypocrisy of US and western allies participating in this project is truly sickening.

timrichards, We're mostly vegetarian at home, but I've long since given up ordering the vegetarian option on planes. Too much of a risky dice-throw.
‘One word – disgusting!’ The sad, sorry state of airline vegetarian meals

allrite, @timrichards Last couple of Jetstar flights I ordered the vegetarian quiche instead of the meat pie option because it is better (and probably better than all the other hot options based on our limited testing).
What would concern me most is if the wellness and vegan options had any joy added to them, because the passengers definitely don't want that.
timrichards, @allrite Especially not on a budget airline!
msquebanh,
Jon_Kramer, @msquebanh Kentucky here. We are not getting wild. I'll steer clear for a bit.
Just so you know, I still look sideways at grapes since Cesar Chavez called for their boycott before color was invented....
msquebanh, @Jon_Kramer Thank you. I'd really like for more folks to #BoycottFarmedSalmon.
The open net salmon farms here have killed multiple marine mammals. It's killed land mammals & birds too because they do illegal toxic shallow pit dumps in pure wilderness. I've seen countless wildlife die at these dump sites via drones because they block access to all public. They don't want ppl to see their environmental crimes.

skinnylatte, @jeromechoo we definitely use more seafood and chilli
ai6yr, Avocado shortages likely due to climate change https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/avocado-shortage-climate-change-water-b2543950.html #agriculture #avocado #food #foodsupply
ai6yr, From the article: "The paper, published on Monday, said these areas are expected to decline by between 14% and 41% by 2050, depending on how fast global emissions are reduced. The world’s biggest producer Mexico could see its potential growing area reduced by 31% by 2050 even if the global average temperature rise is limited to under 2C, and as much as 43% if it increases towards 5C, it said."
ai6yr, **comment: Uhhh... if/when we get to 5C, the price/availability of avocados is going to be the last thing you are worried about.

#Migrant workers face disproportionate risk, compared to general population. According to Amy Liebman, chief program officer Migrant Clinicians Network, these workers make up the bulk of the agricultural and food processing industries. They also are more likely to lack affordable access to health care, and may hesitate to report symptoms if it means not working.
CultureDesk, In this week's The Tastiest newsletter, we invited Michelle, the creator of @SiftandSimmer, to share her tips and recipes for making dim sum. Here's her @Flipboard Storyboard, which has recipes for all your brunch favorites, from siu mai and spring rolls to silky mango pudding. There's even a method for how to cook chicken feet, if that's what floats your culinary boat. Sadly, the Storyboard won't make you magically acquire the skills to fold and wrap dumplings, but there are plenty of tips and diagrams so you can start practising.

fitheach, Banana Ketchup???
Yuurrrggghh!
Who comes up with these disgusting ideas?
I hate bananas in any form.
peterbrown, @fitheach we make raspberry jam from extra raspberries so I suppose the Filipinos make banana ketchup from excess bananas.
fitheach, @peterbrown
The only good banana is a dead banana.
SRDas, Had a couple of really nice people over for dinner. Hadn't seen, met them for year+ maybe 2 and they're leaving for new (and most terrific) positions next week. Both former grad students, now finished postdocs and the most wildly accomplished/published kids. Kerala-esque sour fish curry (meen moilee) and Bengali style alu among other things. And they got for us Brazilian laddoos (ok brigadeiros; I ❤️ condensed milk but wow these were sweet, ok I ate 3)

But it would also go on to torment millions, enrich corporations, inspire generations of advertising campaigns, provoke widespread guilt and pride, and even, some argue today, ...instructing the masses to focus on calories rather than on nutrients and steering them toward highly processed carbohydrates."

aetataureate, #food question for people outside the u.s. (or people here who've lived elsewhere!):
do you have a version of instant jello (jelly? gelatin dessert? haha), and/or instant pudding or custard made by adding milk? or anything else similar?
my local mexican supermarket has a brand with flavors like horchata and mango, and i just put some coconut jello (with frozen fruit!) into the fridge.

SirTapTap, Cooking question:
Just found out about these "electric wood pellet" grills. I have ptsd from fire so propane is out, even charcoal I'm a bit iffy on, this seems like a nice balance of taste, grill marks (oddly important), and ease...I hope?
Never heard of 'em before so I have no idea if there are gotchas

timrichards, Something I've noticed about restaurants in this cost of living crisis... if it's an existing restaurant, it'll put up prices but feel the need to have some continuity with their previous prices.
If it's a new restaurant replacing an old one, they just jump straight to high prices, the $35 bowls of pasta etc. And I never pass through their doors.
vandenberglegs, @timrichards Yeah, a local cafe recently closed. New joint opened up in the same space, selling similar food, but with a ~30% markup. Coffee is still standard price and very good, so they get my coffee business but I aint eating there...
timrichards, @vandenberglegs Yep I've gone that direction with a lot of cafes - coffee, no food. I'm not paying $20 for a sandwich!
