@1chemistdown ActivityPub is a public protocol just like every other Internet protocol. Individual server Admins, whether they run KBIN, Lemmy, Mastodon, Calckey, PixelFed, PeerTube servers, are free to block any other server that connects to ActivityPub. You have to ask the Admin of the server you're on or interested in joining.
Does Kbin have an api? I’m noticing that it doesn’t have an iOS app. And I’m wondering if there’s an api plugin were someone could potentially make an app for it.
OK so when I downvote something it turns red. This is great and perfect. Is there a way I can have something turn blue when I upvote it? I keep upvoting posts 2x because I'm not sure if I've already upvoted them or not.
@DreamySweet
If I’m not mistaken, that’s how the federation works. If you’re the first on your instance to subscribe, you only see new posts. Do I have that wrong?
What is a "reputation point"? It seems to work differently than other forums I've seen in that it only counts downvotes, is that how it worked on Reddit? I never had an account there, apologies.
How can you block a whole domain? I’m seeing a lot of NSFW posts from one Lemmy instance that aren’t being flagged as such. I could block the Magazine, but I would like to block the whole instance outright.
Side note, it is kinda annoying that you have to go inside the Magazine to block it.
@asteroidrainfall no way to block individual instances just yet. you can hide all federated content (in the sidebar there's an option). and you can block magazines/communities.
So I deleted a post I made to /m/Tardigrades as I attached the wrong image and now I get 500 server error for both that magazine and my profile page, I can see other kbin magazines & profiles just fine. Is it just a me thing or did I break them (oops) it is same deal when I check on private browser
@dannekrose This is related to Redis (database cache layer) actually. I suspect it's due to today's update. In the database, the avatar field was null, but the cache layer still held the association.
Hi @maegul, I just wanted to let you know. It's not perfect yet, but it's something I'll be working on in the coming months after the first release. Thanks for pointing it out, it's a relatively simple change, but it makes a significant difference in the overall experience.
@ernest Woah, this makes a heck of a difference. That's powerful!
I love the way that kbin gives you far more options to sort the Microblog feed than, say, Mastodon.
Most popular posts (by people I'm subscribed to) from the last week. Go. Boom!
I notice myself constantly thinking about the (more silent) magazines I have subscribed to and how they are faring.
I know that I find the magazines I have subscribed to through my profile and the subscriptions. But for reasons I cannot materialize to words that feels like a convoluted way to approach these magazines.
I'm not so sure what I'm trying to say - I guess I just hope there was a view equivalent to https://kbin.social/magazines that showed only the ones I have subscribed to (maybe there could be an option, a box you could tick?) and maybe showing the last time someone created any kind of activity within a magazine?
My #kbin account seems broken? :\ For the last month+ I can't get any thread I create to show up in its magazine, even when the magazine is a local one. Comments are fine, microblog posts are fine, threads show up in my profile but never the magazine.
Admittedly I don't try very often, but that makes it all the more disheartening when I feel like "yay, I finally have something worth sharing" and, well, no apparently I don't.
@harmonea you may be blocking a domain, which causes a bug detailed here. tl;dr blocking any domain on kbin.social right now hides any non-link entries and comments on them. removing them all fixes it, it's fixed in latest which hopefully the main site gets soon
How do I see a list of communities to sub to? I currently have to find them manually. In Lemmy there is an option to list them. Hope there is one here.
So apparently, lemmyverse.net now has the ability to list kbin magazines in addition to their own. You can switch to kbin mags through the menu on the top right (I don't know why this is a separate setting), as well as setting your home instance with the little house button so that all links should lead to kbin's version of the page. It's still a bit to scroll through, but at the very least it's a catalog.
Side note: for some reason instances that are perfectly accessible from kbin have some communities that show up and some that absolutely refuse to. I know they exist, but no matter what I do I can't force it to acknowledge them. So if searching for any of them returns a 404 or an utter blank, it's not just you. I know sh.itjust.works has this problem, as does lemmy.intai.tech. Hopefully, this kind of issue will be resolved in the coming weeks as the server continues to find its feet.
Sorry for the dumb question, but, uh, how do you collapse comment threads? I'm a bit new here, and I really like it, but I don't want to have to scroll past a lot of subcomments and side-conversations to see the next top comment. I've tried clicking on the nice colors and stuff, but I can't seem to figure it out. Can someone help me please?
@goryramsy I don't think it's a feature yet on kbin itself, but there's a great userscript that does this. You need a browser extension that lets you install userscripts (like tampermonkey for chromium browsers) to use it.
