Time for the first and News video of 2024!

In this one, is also looking at optimizing packages, at the cost dropping older CPUs, wants to do the same, but without leaving anyone behind, is pivoting towards , Linux reaches almost 4% market share on the desktop, and develops an official extension, which leaves me baffled:

Well, @thelinuxEXP, in the @ubuntu community forums it was made clear that they are NOT dropping support for older CPUs (at least they don't have any concrete plans for that).

@popey himself has been clearing things up to any concerned voices (including mine).

See the topic here - https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/trying-out-ubuntu-23-04-on-x86-64-v3-rebuild-for-yourself/40963/8

@juancaraujos @ubuntu @popey Well that’s great to hear! It wasn’t very clear when they initially discussed the topic

Well, @thelinuxEXP, that's why @fedora was asking about the oldest machine you have that on (In my case, an Acer 4739z with a Pentium P6200).

@pop_os_official and @ubuntu already saved my 2007 iMac and 2008 white MacBook from the junkyard.

So dropping support for older hardware is NOT the way to go.

@thelinuxEXP The performance gain with that CPU base is underwhelming.

@thelinuxEXP Mozilla feels like a company that wants to go full corpo but doesn't.

@udittlamba It’s really weird. I wish the guys heading Thunderbird right now did the same kind of revival work for Firefox, they have been amazing at making the email client super relevant again, maybe they could help the browser get better as well.

I guess they are working for different structures / subsidiaries, though
