In this week’s and News video, we have the new App Store that will demote deb packages, we have the alpha of 45, and proposing to add telemetry in a future release.

Let’s take a look:

@thelinuxEXP Just a nit pick here (but I think an important one): "Fedora" isn't proposing anything... Some folks are proposing telemetry to Fedora (thats all of us in community).

nokze1137,

@thelinuxEXP I like how the podcast says "Explicit"

@nokze1137 I think I swear on this one 😅

pepper1700,

@thelinuxEXP Meta doesn't want my data, they flagged me as a bot. Anyway, even if we ignore the priva y stuff, Threads is basically an early proof of concept with 50M users.

penguintech1,

@thelinuxEXP Wow Gnome is really killing it, this update on the contrary to what you said, is kinda huge because everything is under the hood, really excited to see it come to Fedora and Nobara ( my favorite Distros ) ( Nobara usually takes 2 months period to get updated )

also, hope things settle in France, these riots and invasive surveillance laws ( I mean they already arrested 7 people for nothing ) is really concerning, and I don't wanna sound pessimistic , but these are the signs of collapse ( guys on r/collapse would def agree ), but you're doing your part by getting the message out there, most people don't care about privacy, and laws like these pass because they don't get that much coverage and again people don't care

AmyIsCoolz,

@thelinuxEXP I heard the reason they wanted to federate with activitypub because they want to avoid monopoly regulations. They would say stuff like "uhhh? monopoly? no we federate with people, we share so we cant be a monopoly! :D"

jacket,

@thelinuxEXP Salut. J'adore votre podcast.

racsu,

@thelinuxEXP Hi nick! Not related to the tech video, did u see that nobara release their own steam deck iso? It has all the features that holoiso/steamos have for what I see, I don't see that many videos about the steam deck on your channel, but I think this one in specific could be really interesting! (and maybe could be also a good iso in the future for steam consoles, who knows)

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@racsu I probably won’t cover it, I don’t feel like changing the distro on the deck is something I would want to do ;)

causalityloop,

@thelinuxEXP this week in open source news. let me guess...canonical is doing something stupid? (watches video) yup!

AsHperson,

@thelinuxEXP
Ubuntu is silly with this one, how long until they are no longer based on Debian?

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@AsHperson They’re not really based on Debian today! With a lot of their default apps being snaps they already deviate a lot

AmyIsCoolz,

@thelinuxEXP @AsHperson also using Ubuntu PPAs on Debian means broken!

@thelinuxEXP excellent coverage, add usual! Thanks for everything you do, Nick. 😁

@cassidy Thanks ☺️

posiris,

@thelinuxEXP Is the telemetry what they are doing with Fedora 38 Kinoite? I recently installed it to 2 old laptops and there is a slider with 3 different levels (besides disabled). Each level is explained.

tonch,

@thelinuxEXP Being on Kubuntu with the Discover store, I'm hoping the Ubuntu store shenanigans won't affect it, beyond the flatpak stuff already in place that's easily reversed.

I'm hovering my finger over a big red Debian button if I have to, I'll be watching Kubuntu like a hawk... but for the immediate future I think I'll be alright

dwc,

@thelinuxEXP This really sucks. I've been enjoying Fedora 37, but with this and the stuff Red Hat / IBM is pulling...I guess I'll be switching to Debian.

@thelinuxEXP i hope telemetry can be easily disabled....

@nitrofurano It can!
