Hello and folks,
Is there an Android Mastodon app that allows me to follow the Local feeds of various instances?

(Am currently using Megolodon, Tooot and Metatext. Perhaps I don't know if this is actually a feature in the app. Fun fact: I once drove a car 100% believing that it had no air conditioners. A year later, my friend showed me the button on the dashboard that activated it. Yeah, I'm that kind of person.)

Cheers & Thanks in advance!

fisco1791,

@liztai
allows you to add timelines from other instances, also can do the same with

4somecurious,

@liztai not 100% sure if this is exactly what you want, but:
I use tusky, and it supports multiple profiles, so you can easily switch among many instances each with its local timeline (and personal, and fediverse). It also allows to open toots with other profiles.
I use it with different aspects of my life (work, friends, advocacy, curiosity), so this "open as..." function is really useful to sort people to follow in the different profiles. Hope this helps.

tuangd,

@liztai I'm not sure this is what you want or not but Megalodon on Android let you see feeds from federations. Might be what you looking for?

@tuangd Do you mean the "firehose" federation feed? Oh, I mean the local feed of a specific instance.

tuangd,

@liztai then it might not be the same thing hmmm...

@liztai if you are already using Megalodon, just press and hold your profile picture at the bottom right of your screen and the option to register a new account will popup.
You can use the same press-and-hold trick to switch between your accounts.
Hope this works for you!

@kikobar woo I didn't know this. Thank you!

Daniel_Berky,

@liztai Yes! Tusky supports this. Under Android, at any rate. The Local Groups appears as a third icon at the top of the screen.

@Daniel_Berky oooh, this sounds awesome!

AlexTheAutisticArtist,

@liztai megalodon does this. Just hold down the profile icon on the bottom right and add account.

chris_mahan,

@liztai I use tusker and it supports multiple logins. (gotta swith between them)

@chris_mahan Wow, I've not heard of Tusker. I'll have a look too.

chris_mahan,

@liztai yay

mckean,

@liztai I remember that supported that. does too, just double checked.

@mckean I've not heard of SubwayTooter! Definitely will check it out.

mckean,

@liztai it's a bit rough and not as bling, I like the customizability, hope you like it.

@liztai I just posted about this feature last night! https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/@chris/110642828703460877
It's great, especially if you are selfhosted like me or on a small instance. I use Tooot. If you tap on the world icon then you can get to the search and then tap underneath the trending tag to get to the remote timelines. Not all servers share their timelines publicly but most do.

@liztai
Fedilab has that, I follow hachyderm that way

scottcain,

@liztai Toot! On the iPhone lets you have multiple accounts and follow multiple local time lines on servers where you don’t have an account

scottcain,

@liztai the control in the bottom right corner of this screenshot is a “dial” that lets you swipe between servers and accounts.

liztai,

@scottcain Thanks! I have Toot! So I'm gonna try this out :)

@liztai If you're on Android, I tried Moshidon for a bit and it had a feature where you could add any local feed as a timeline. However I found the app to be really slow. GIFs wouldn't load, images would take a while to load, so I stopped in using it

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@squizzleflip Ah dang that sounded perfect until the "slow" part lol

@liztai @squizzleflip

IDK about the slow part! I use it to check other instance's feed and it's as quick as the official app. I guess the slowness was due to the instances being overloaded this week? Mastodon.social gave me a lot of 503 errors this weekend in the web interface

bmarinov,

@liztai
I just started using and it works great. UX could use some improvement.

    the_curiostech,

    @liztai I’d like to know as well, but haven’t seen this feature.
