We've seen that missions to the Moon have very short lifespans. As soon as the two-week-long lunar night sets in, temperatures drop so low rovers and landers can't keep their batteries warm, ending their missions. A new paper proposes that a spacecraft in a halo orbit on the far side of the Moon could stay in perpetual sunlight and then beam power wirelessly to rovers and landers, helping them survive the lunar night and communicate from the far side.

I don’t have a problem with map, but I will virtually always reach for a for loop first. It’s just the way my brain works, even though I’ve been writing Perl for over 20 years

So, I have an interesting problem: my young adult son has been a person pretty much his whole life. I don’t judge him for that: the linear plot lines and clear good guy vs bad guy themes are appealing. But he has offered, for my birthday, to watch a movie with me. The question is: what to pick. Wrath of Khan feels like the obvious choice, though I haven’t seen it since I was a kid. Anybody want to offer an alternative?

Oh here's my hair routine by the way:

  1. Shampoo and massage scalp (https://www.sheamoisture.com/jamaican-oil-strengthen-shampoo/764302215837/)

  2. Condition with tons of conditioner, rake through hair to evenly spread and then rinse out (Trader Joe's Tea Tree Condition; work's great, dirt cheap)

  3. Fill a plastic bowl with water in the shower

  4. Work in leave-in conditioner (Kinky-Curly Knot Today https://kinky-curly.com/shop.php)

  5. Dip hair into bowl and then scrunch the water and conditioner out

  6. Add curl cream (https://notyourmothers.com/products/curl-talk-defining-cream), dip into the same bowl and scrunch out 3-4 times

  7. Get a giant handful of mousse and scrunch it in (https://notyourmothers.com/collections/curl-talk/products/curl-talk-activating-mousse) while holding my head forward and side to side

  8. Get out of the shower, holding my head forward still

  9. Diffuse by hovering the diffuser over my hair for 5-10 minutes

  10. Diffuse for another 15 min normally

  11. Scrunch after air drying for an hour or two

WHO WANTS CURLY HAIR AGAIN

scottcain,
@scottcain@genomic.social avatar

@rooster Yeah, I was thinking I'd send this to my curly-haired son who doesn't take his hair care seriously (oh, it could be so great if he tried), but when I had to hit "read more", I knew it was a lost cause.

Feels extremely smooth. And perfectly integrated with the apple ecosystem.

@Daojoan interesting. I’ve been thinking about doing the same. Migrated hosting for one email address but my primary is still Gsuite (along with sooo many docs, sheets and presentations). What hiccups have you experienced?

One of the things I thought we learned from the War on Terror is that "clash of civilizations / religions" framing is an attempt by fascists to manipulate people into accepting genocidal violence against an entire population, often purely on behalf of imperialist and ethnic nationalist goals.

scottcain,

@gwynnion That "we learned" part is doing a lot of heavy lifting in your statement :-/

siderea, (edited ) to Massachusetts

Hey, (and other baystaters), were you aware there is something not unlike unemployment insurance available for us through the state, for super cheap?

https://www.mass.gov/orgs/department-of-family-and-medical-leave

It's an income replacement insurance program, for if you are out of work for medical reasons, yours or a family member's (and they have explicitly defined family member to be more inclusive of LGBTQIA+ families than the federal FMLA program, which doesn't cover us self-employed people anyway).

I just found out my premiums for the whole year would be less than $500. Total.

They would pay out more than that in a SINGLE WEEK of my being out due to a qualifying medical reason.

@therapists

Uh huh, and how many of them utilize a receptor that's ubiquitous, trigger overactivation of the immune system, are the fastest mutating, easiest transmitting virus ever, and [re]infect the vast majority of the population over and over and over every year, regardless the season?

I'll wait...

Hello and folks,
Is there an Android Mastodon app that allows me to follow the Local feeds of various instances?

(Am currently using Megolodon, Tooot and Metatext. Perhaps I don't know if this is actually a feature in the app. Fun fact: I once drove a car 100% believing that it had no air conditioners. A year later, my friend showed me the button on the dashboard that activated it. Yeah, I'm that kind of person.)

Cheers & Thanks in advance!

scottcain,
@scottcain@genomic.social avatar

@liztai Toot! On the iPhone lets you have multiple accounts and follow multiple local time lines on servers where you don’t have an account

scottcain,
@scottcain@genomic.social avatar

@liztai the control in the bottom right corner of this screenshot is a “dial” that lets you swipe between servers and accounts.
