Honestly, I don’t think this whole 3PA/API discussions could have been handled worse by Reddit, but especially by spez. I am almost certain that his PR people/lawyers told him not to comment on anything relating to the absolute mess created when dealing with Christian (dev of Apollo), but he lost to his own ego and doubled down anyways.

Noirezcent,

I found this place when I saw the subreddit helping with the migration was banned. Probably wouldn't have heard of the place otherwise.

Lol its exactly the same for me!

+1 here as well. Deleted my multi-year old, 3000+ karma account on the way out.

gk99,

I had only heard of Lemmy and wasn't sure I wanted to make the jump, but boy did the banning of a completely harmless reddit community really help me make the choice of which platform to switch to and really make it clear how power-trippy reddit has gotten.

Anarch157a,

Same here. I was looking for an alternative since early this year, when I stopped going to Reddit. I was considering joining a Lemmy instance when I found kbin.

Glad I waited a bit, since kbin's interface is more to my taste than Lemmy.

So, a hearty welcome to all of us Reddit refugees.

Wow. To think that the only reason I went to Reddit in the first place was because of Digg's downfall. What a deja-moo*

* Deja-moo: that feeling you have seen that bullshit before...

steph,

yep. was undecided until the ama yesterday. think he pushed a lot of fence sitters off the platform.

LostXOR,

Good choice. That's why most of us are here.

I've watched with interest for a few weeks. It became real for me when Christian, the Apollo app creator, provided detailed records of his interaction with reddit. I absolutely despise lies. And the reddit team are on record misrepresenting themselves. So that's it. I'm gearing to leave reddit after nearly 10 years.

cn98,

10 year user of reddit, jumping ship after that disastrous AMA and looking for any viable alternatives

Juxtapec,

Another reddit refugee here. Nice to see other refugees!

SkinOfAnOrange,

Reddit showed their cards with the intention, even if they back track now you can't trust them. So I jumped ship as soon as the CEO done the so-called "AMA" if you can even call it that. It was a pathetic attempt of justifying their stance, and they didn't even answer the questions. So never going back.

moogoo2,

I've been looking for a good alternative for a while, Reddit has been steadily getting worse for years. The AMA and then the migration sub ban brought this platform to the forefront.

Leaving Reddit after 13 years and the atmosphere here is similar to what drew me to Reddit back then, which is nice.

amtiskaw,

Howdy. I just read the /u/spez AMA, and decided to look for alternatives.

atatassault,

I'll be honest, half the reason I use Reddit is for porn. I really hope the porn communities migrate ASAP.

Clearly a lot of work to be done here but it feels like the basis of something really great. As a fellow Reddit refugee, I’m here for it.

That AMA motivated me to delete my reddit account all together.

Before I did mine I nuked all of my comments, some of which were highly rewarded help posts that must have been picked up by google as I was regularly getting random awards for posts made years ago.

I’m not interested in having the good advice/posts I’d made in my own time driving even more traffic to such an awfully run site via google.

The way they’ve treated 3rd party developers is appalling.

The way they don’t care for the very users that put good posts/content on the site that makes others gravitate to it is absurd.

The AMA yesterday that could have put many peoples concerns are rest was an absolute joke.

I loved helping others and especially loved receiving help from other likeminded people when I was stuck but for all the great people that do post in some of the subs, I can’t tolerate they way they want it run.

I love this comment. You hit on several points and you stuck the landing on all of them.

I wish I knew about shreddit before I deleted my account. Like you, I had awards and thousands of karma built up over the years. I didn't even use third party clients, but the way supporters (users, developers and by extension contributors) are viewed as meat for the IPO and how the AMA drove that home really soured me on the whole of Reddit.

Yeah I just hope this site doesn't have the same fate as reddit

aponigricon,
aponigricon avatar

Shouldn't really be possible for it to have the exact same fate since you can always just jump to another instance and get the same content, but we'll see if the Fediverse model can handle a mass migration

Yeah, traffic on the site doubled in a week.
