According to Scandinavian folklore, trolls dwell inside mountains and rocks in their own realms. The portals to the realm of the trolls are usually very well hidden, and trolls are known to guard their doors strictly.

Art by Swedish illustrator John Bauer (1882-1918)

@titania2468 John Bauer is one of my all-time favourite artists. <3

randomgeek,

KDE Plasma remains my preferred thick desktop.

Uraael,

@randomgeek It's the best DE for tinkerers like me, I reckon. When I last tried Gnome I spent days looking for the options that just weren't there, before uninstalling and never looking back. I'm on KDE right now having undone some heavy Garuda customisation to put things how I like them.

Uraael,

One not so great thing about living alone is having to do absolutely bloody everything yourself (unless you can organise assistance, not always easy). How do people find the energy and willpower for the ceaseless treadmill of tasks involved in maintaining a home? I do let an awful lot of things slide for longer than I probably should. 🥴

However, today, 'king bank Holiday Monday, has been massively productive which is fantastic. I've a list of tasks I won't get done today but that's absolutely fine - some of them are BIG, and I'm doing great getting through them. Also, there's no rush. Some can be done this week, this weekend, next weekend....

A Big Thing I'm really pleased I got done today; set up my food waste recycling. I've always felt really fuilty chucking my food scraps into the landfill bin, so that's a load off my mind at long last.

And I have a ham slow-cooking for dinner as well, glazed with mustard, and soaking in a ham and clove stock. The smell is mouthwatering so I've escaped upstairs to write this! 😇

I hope everyone else is having a super day, even if you have no New-Monarch Day to enjoy.

I've been reminded, of late, that several loud voices in the AWS and larger community have apparently very little desire for two key aspects of software architecture - pragmatism, and evolution.

Good software architecture will blend multiple techniques to attempt to produce a good design for the current context - i.e. what is known, and what is needed.

As context changes, architecture should change with it. Great architecture will expect such change, without over-abstracting.

MariaTheMartian,

Kinda sad about some cool photos I lost.

Once I went to the bay beach near my house and the entire beach was covered with hundreds of dinner plate sized jellyfish that had washed up overnight.

I ran around and poked them with a stick, as one does, and took some cool photos.

Wish I could show you, but you'll just have to imagine how cool/weird it was.

You doesn't has to call him Johnson. You can call him RJ or RJJ or RJJ, Jr.

In any case, RIP sir.

On Samsung devices, Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant, can be activated by pressing and holding the side key. If you want to set to activate Google Assistant by pressing the side key instead and wonder how to do it; John Dyer will tell you how this can be done in a few simple steps https://tinyurl.com/k8fbs5sw

klauren,

May native wildflowers in our garden. This after a neighbor cut down massive privets on the property line, flooding the yard with sunlight. Seeded the area with wildflowers and nature did the awesome rest.

drwhax,
