Looks like StarLabs turned their affordable entry level laptop into an entry level tablet / Surface like device!

Looks pretty good for a Linux tablet!

@thelinuxEXP Holy moly! A Linux convertible like that with a pen and I'd be down! Wantz!

duckwhistle,
@duckwhistle@mastodon.org.uk avatar

@thelinuxEXP wait, isn't StarLabs a fictional company from the DC comics universe!?

AfroScribble,

@thelinuxEXP Tsk. If they included an active digitizer/stylus technology this would be perfect :fatyoshi:

@thelinuxEXP oh very nice!
Are you gonna review it? I'm looking for a tablet/ super light Laptop for everyday carry.
This sounds kind good maybe?

@aral@mastodon.ar.al avatar

@thelinuxEXP PS. Just tried ordering it and my order was declined twice. First time, in addition to the decline, I got a preauthorisation for the amount in account (which reduces the balance). Called up the Starlabs folks and was told there was nothing they do about that and that I should retry. Retried with different card, and the site again told me it was declined but this time the full amount was taken. They’re looking into it but maybe hold off buying till they’ve fixed their ecommerce site.

@thelinuxEXP so cool! Reading music, doing light dev tasks, drawing perhaps.

@thelinuxEXP I might buy one!

limeparallelogram,

@thelinuxEXP This looks really nice! I've got an ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 and by absolute fluke it's Linux compatibility is almost perfect. Really good to see more Linux-first devices with touch screens and styluses. ✏️

@thelinuxEXP FTW! :allthethings:

Can’t wait to order mine!

@thelinuxEXP sadly, not for me, once again, another company selling good/cool devices that don't have my keyboard layout...

maleandroids,

@thelinuxEXP I wish I knew this existed earlier! This is amazing! 💙 swoon adds to wish list

bh,

@thelinuxEXP
That looks awesome.

I was looking to acquire a Linux tablet for a while. Please Nick will you make a video with what are the current options? I would like make the right choice, not the best choice when buying it. Like not the top performance but rather open firmware, modularity, upgrade-able RAM, SSD and WiFi card.

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@mariubrlu I’d love to, but unless I get review units for each option, I don’t see this happening!

AlexanderMars,
@AlexanderMars@mastodon.social avatar

@thelinuxEXP @mariubrlu don’t forget to include the MS surface pro tablets running the Surface Kernel. I use one because I actually NEED a tablet as an input device. There’s a lot of tablets that you can install Linux on, unfortunately they often just become a laptop with some limited touch functionality(if you’re lucky), the Surface Kernel allows for a fully functional device. The guys who develop the Surface Kernel do amazing work and are super helpful.

mariubrlu,

@thelinuxEXP Wow, how I wish this would be based on AMD or ARM processor. Running on coreboot does it mean that it doesn't contain the Intel ME malware? Or is up to my skills to remove those blobs?

A picture on their website shows its motherboard with removable RAM sticks. But in the specs says that memory is onboard. Can someone clarify?

dampscot,

@thelinuxEXP you interest me strangely Nick

Merci beaucoup pour cette nouvelle!

And the wifi on this one should work glares at pinetab2

AmyIsCoolz,

@thelinuxEXP now THAT is cool! before this there was really two okay choice which is the Lenovo Chromebook duet 3, which is not too powerful but good Linux support (except for the camera) and Microsoft Surface which are quite WIP on Linux

(and jingpad is dead, and fydetab only now can start shipping in China)

@thelinuxEXP Only $500 ??? Enticing really !

amxmln,
@amxmln@mastodon.design avatar

@thelinuxEXP that looks really cool! Just need to keep in mind that the keyboard is another 100€ on top. And I'm not so sure that CPU can handle such a high resolution reasonably. 🤔

Do you happen to know why they don't offer Fedora as a distro option? 🤔

thelinuxEXP,
@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social avatar

@amxmln No idea, no, but I wouldn’t think there would be major incompatibilities with Fedora

neuroexception,

@thelinuxEXP That looks so good. I love to see when manufactures know what the linux community wants. Especially when implementing coreboot.

@thelinuxEXP Looks like a pretty good device and good price too.

poppyart,

@thelinuxEXP :blobcatthinkowo: I have been wishing for a Framework tablet but this is literally the next best thing. I’ll definitely save up for it.
