@thelinuxcast Oh no... What's the best alternative?

cameronbosch,

@thelinuxcast That’s what I switched to as well. Hyfetch is alright, but I think I prefer something like FastFetch, as it is compiled (in C) versus interpreted (in Bash or Python).

More indies are a good thing with AAA game studios generally disappointing these days.

Hyprland keeps crashing while I'm recording videos. It has done it now three times.

I'm sorry, but that's the end for me. At least for a long while. I'm headed back to Xorg.

cameronbosch,
@cameronbosch@fosstodon.org avatar

@thelinuxcast Do you know what's causing the crash? I'm not saying that it's a legitimate problem with Hyprland, but do you know WHY it's crashing? Have you sent logs or filed a bug report with Hyprland's developer?

That is kind of sus though.

We've just opened a new firmware/system software role (open to US, Canada, and Taiwan). We develop open source firmware to enable products like this, and we have even more exciting projects on our roadmap:

@frameworkcomputer If this eventually results in a coreboot option for the Intel Framework's (that aren't the Chomebook Edition), that'll be big for Linux users!

(Unfortunately, it seems like coreboot on AMD Ryzen CPUs isn't a thing yet...)

I can't wait to see how @CassetteBeasts multi-player update performs on the Steam Deck OLED (I've manually locked the frame rate to 60 hz because I don't think the game goes any higher); it's probably been one of my favorite turn-based RPGs I've ever played. I highly recommend it!

Quick FOSS legal literacy quiz

Imagine the following situation: your project is MIT licensed. Someone takes the whole project and white-labels it (changes the name), then sells it commercially without providing the source code or sharing any of the sales revenue with you. They include "Copyright <your name>" and a copy of the MIT license in the "about" page of the software.

Is this allowed?

cameronbosch, (edited )
@cameronbosch@fosstodon.org avatar

@drewdevault Wow, so it's a license that is impossible to comply with. Thanks for the clarifiation; I didn't know THAT was why the SSPL license was considered nonfree.

It's great to see Fedora Atomic helping to pave the way for free and open source operating systems on handheld PCs!

    @JoeRess I unfortunately don't have much experience with Linux printers. I have an HP but most brands are probably fine as long as you don't need specialized apps. (I bought it before the ink cartridge DRM controversy; I likely wouldn't have bought an HP printer if I was buying today) The core functionality of printing on Linux thanks to CUPS is actually better than on Windows because you don't need external drivers; it's either supported or it's not.
