@CyberneticForests I love it. Here's another that I like quite a bit

Actual conversation I've had with my old AI developer roommate circa 2018

RM: "AI is super cool right now. I'm currently working with a research firm and we've sort of simulated PAIN for our model and we're seeing how it reacts when it receives only a pain stimulus and no reward."

Me: Hey man What the Fuck.

Ted Chiang (The story of your life and others), interviewed by Ezra Klein, said he hoped we never developed artificial consciousness, because of all the suffering it would mean for the prototype consciousness along the way.

I think science communicator Rebecca Watson had the best take.

News outlets will inevitably figure out that AI chatbots are cheaper than actual reporters, and not care about the fact that these LLM AI chatbots are often confidently wrong about things, thus injecting a "firehose of misinformation" into the national discourse that dwarfs even the right-wing propaganda machine.

@tofugolem Yeah I often see arguments that AI isn’t good enough to replace a human’s creativity I am surprised that anyone thinks quality and power of expression are driving the investment decisions of CEOs :/

    "Sir, the computer is wrong."
    "No no, it apologized for that and we're better now. It respects me."

    squarism,

    @glitzersachen @CyberneticForests @tofugolem CEOs are humans, so ... approved ✅ Now, what about the board.

    Honestly, if you replaced most CEOs with chatbots, would anyone notice a difference?

    I'm watching the shit-show going on with Unity. That company still might not survive the incompetence of its CEO.

    Personally, I think this is just the next cryptocurrency/NFT scam used by tech executives to convince people to waste a bunch of money on nothing, although it does seem to have actual value in certain areas, such as software development (ironically).

    @CyberneticForests @randomgeek When people tell me #trolley thought experiments in #philosophy provide guidance for real-world problems: https://newideal.aynrand.org/why-todays-ethics-offers-no-real-guidance/

    (I don't think generative #AI will solve #ethics problems either, just whitewash where the solutions come from)
