Washington state does all mail ballots, which is awesome in many ways. But last time i voted they put 2 challenges against my signature and i really don't think my vote got counted.
Voter ID laws like signature verification are used to remove votes from people that don't match the perfect example of a normal voter. They do not reduce the impact of the non-existent voter fraud problem in this country on account of we do not have a voting fraud problem in this country.

I'm voting today. I hope they won't be calling me about this again.

You know, when I look back on my life, I think it is utterly fucking amazing that for most of it, I had to literally argue with people as to the actual EXISTENCE of racism in this confederate ass hellhole. My whole fucking LIFE in white spaces. Holy hell. It's hard to be sane in this bitch, I'll tell you that.

One time my wife and I were taking a border shuttle into Mexico. We're white, most people in the van were not. We took some seats at the front of the crowded 15 passenger van next to an older lady. At a couple of the ICE checkpoints they just saw 2 white people in a row and assumed whatever about the third person in the dark van and I could tell it bothered her that they didn't ask for ID.

When we got into Mexico she was very happy and bought us a round of mini Coca-Cola bottles.

On the question of "why don't Americans protest more," one reason is there is no "acceptable" vehicle for collective action in this country outside the two major parties, neither of which tolerate disruptive protests by the kinds of people who most need to do so, who are met with militarized force.

RnDanger,

@jpaskaruk @gwynnion
Americans tried protest in 2020. It was sustained and withstood many hard blows for a long time.
Nothing changed except a lot of heads got beat and some people left their jobs. Oh, and cops justified more military weapons purchases in light of all the heads they beat.

I've even heard people using those protests as justification or what-about arguments for the January 6 riot, as if they shared motivations or tactics.

I think we need to find a more effective way to effect change when voting isn't enough.

I pay for the builder's version of Solidworks. It's like fifty bucks a year when i get it. I like it because i use Solidworks at work so I'm using something I'm familiar with and i gain experience for work. I find it powerful and the build process makes sense to me. There's some limits, i think most importantly I'm not supposed to use it for commercial work (or designs that get used in things that are sold.) (I'm not sure how they could tell from an .stl or .stp,,)
Honestly though it's kind of a pain to work with the license issues that pop up. They can't simply tell you the license has expired, they just give strange errors. And looking for support gets me into a maze of Solidworks associated websites with no real answers or any understanding on my part as to why. But once i pay for the year and get it working again I'm good.

I still prefer the networks based in , but I was wondering if systems like Bluesky can be more attractive for people with a larger audience or issues with online harassment

Public block lists? What privileged ass-hat decided on that one? 🤮

RnDanger,

@Wraithe @berniethewordsmith
Yes, i can see if you blocked me when i go to your page. But you don't have a public list showing who all you blocked. This makes sense to me and doesn't feel like it would be abused the same way.

I'm sure someone is trolling every account on Bluesky that blocked their favorite political commentator, for example.

    In my twenties i was a stagehand and several times i worked days on end with a few hours off here and there if i was lucky. (Those hours were spent driving across the state of Arizona when i wasn't lucky) Things get kind of blurry but i remember sleeping inside of the front of house console case under the stage i built for the Phoenix symphony orchestra while they were shooting cannons to the 1812 Overture and i think later that days i was sleeping in the lighting truss for Slipknot because someone pushed a cadillac onto the backdrop and it ripped while i was riding it up to do final focus. The stage manager demanded to know who would pay for it and i was hand tightening the bolts to the truss that i was riding in thirty feet off the ground. (That crew did not care that the bolts i was trusting my life to were not tight. I decided that i would not be doing that with that crew again)
    i think we used the same speakers at both gigs. That was about a forty hour shift for me at two different venues.

    RnDanger,

    @RickiTarr
    Or my twenty-first birthday was also fun. We set up a stage for the Navajo Nation Fair. We spent three days there. Naughty By Nature, Roots, and Dwight Yoakam all played. On the last night we were beginning to load up and the last thing they did was a rain dance. It was really cool to see and they really needed rain because the whole state was on fire. After the rain dance the crowd left and the rain started pouring on us sideways. We were not equipped to handle this. We loaded cables covered in mud in the beds of people's pickup trucks. One of our big box trucks got stuck in mud and we had to back another truck up to it and load everything from one truck to the other. The constant noise of rain smacking my face, i could barely hear anything else. Communication is important when you're moving large stuff in the windy, wet, dark night. I'm so glad we didn't drop any equipment or get hurt.
    When we got home we had to wash all the dried clay mud off of the cables and rewrap them, and! they didn't have alcohol for sale in the Navajo Nation.

    Okay, picking up from my video game post yesterday, I'm curious:

    When you play video games, rpgs, ect, where you get to choose your character, do you tend to choose a character of the same sex, the opposite sex, non-binary, anthropomorphic, or a mysterious 4th option?

    If you want to share screenshots of character builds I would enjoy that!

    RnDanger,

    @LinuxAndYarn @cainmark @RickiTarr @itsjustjenn
    I tend to mix it up.
    I don't play online games for the most part but reading this thread reminded me that I did create a woman character for GTA Online once. I chose an outfit that looked comfortable and I got so many dudes just hanging around me it was ridiculous.

    What is one of your best rainy day memories?

    My Cousin Sarah and I got to stay at our Great Grandma's house together, and it was raining, and she told us we didn't have to be cooped up, we could go play in the rain. This was very exciting, because it's not something our parents would have gone for. So we twirled around and leapt in puddles and licked raindrops off rose petals. When we were done our Gran put us in a hot bath, and made us hot tea and treats. She brought out a big bag of costume jewelry and let us go through it, we tried everything on, and thought we were very fancy, and she let us keep our favorite ones.

    I'm gonna guess it's sitting under an awning in my uncle's back yard watching lightning strikes as the monsoon rolled in just after sunset. He lived beyond the city's edge at that time (which is not true for the same place now.) They had a dozen dogs, a hundred birds, and a couple of horses - but they were all quiet.

    You all understand that the US and EU talking about travel bans for “extremist” Israeli settlers is the OPPOSITE of holding Israel to account, right?

    Whereas Palestinians are assigned collective guilt for the actions of individuals, these visa bans are an attempt at individualising blame for Israeli state crimes.

    That's why Western leaders have no problem with them and there is absolutely no "tough love" here, but collusion with the Israeli propaganda narrative. These measures actually allow them to DEFLECT criticism of Israel: nothing wrong with the polity or its policies, if there is anything to criticise let's put all the blame on a handful of "bad apple" extremist settlers and ignore how, far from representing an aberration, their actions are systematically condoned, endorsed, aided and abetted by Israeli politicians, the judiciary, and the army.
