@thor image description: two people on scooters talk about how great the city scooters are and how easy they make it for them to get around while behind them a wheelchair user is impeded by the same sort of scooters blocking the sidewalk
While I do see the point of your comic, I would add that able-bodied people touting things like #scooters and #Segways as "the future of transportation" are also irritating to me.
I have heel spurs. The point of wheels (for me) is to NOT stand up. Old people and people who can't walk easily cannot use Segways and scooters like young, healthy folks.
Hey, #AlternativeTranportation fans...Please consider us when inventing new "future of transportation" ideas. Thanks.
@thor In the town where i live (NL) they tested for a while with electrical mopeds/scooters you could 'rent' .. Those got the same treatment: Parked everywhere, but mostly in the way..
The PARKING is what ended that trial. The usage itself was fine as a kind of public transportation means. But because they where electric and charging was not that convenient, a lot just got abandoned where the battery died or where the rentalperiod ended. I can only image how annoying that has to have been for disabled/eldery people who's sidewalk gets blocked.
@thor I love foot powered scooters because they're fun. I dislike powered foot scooters because they enable lazy people not to walk. If I bought a new one it would be foot powered.
@richard you still have to push yourself a couple of times before accelerating. And if you push yourself fast enough you save power. It's not like a motorcycle or an actual fuel powered scooter (like Vespas) where you just start your engine and accelerate.
I still love my bike though. Gets me faster and is more eco friendly than anything carrying a motor.
@petrescatraian I commuted on a manual scooter daily at one point. I loved how practical it was, without an engine. The only change I felt I needed was bigger wheels, to avoid incidents. I never hurt myself with it.
Bikes are great, but if you commute by train a bike is not ideal. As a former snowboarder I thought that relearning to skateboard would be a good way of getting around. @thor
@thor Apparently pavements are just parking spaces be it for scooters or cars (or bins or tables etc) - how dare the people who need to use them for their intended purpose use them for their intended purpose.
@jonossaseuraava looks at the cars parked on a sidewalk or sidewalk straight missing and replaced with parking lot or road:
— at least their parking is regulated...
