My neighbor's 7-year-old daughter takes piano lessons. His wife had a piano she inherited from her grandmother, but it was destroyed in a house fire. It's a shame; she wanted to pass it on to her kids. They rent one now.
I have a piano. I have no one to leave it to when I go. I've kept it perfectly tuned and in great shape.
I offered it to them as a way to pass it down - at least it will continue to live on, just through a different family.

Doesn't it feel good? We did that with our piano when we moved down from PA. Our girls didn't live at home anymore and we didn't want to move it. We asked the HS music teacher for suggestions and she matched us up with a family that needed one. Win-win.
@Sharonbw Exactly!!! It does feel good. I looked at the piano for years and wondered what I'd do with it. I love that it will live on with another family.
When we moved my MIL into our home in Michigan, we brought lots of her furniture so she'd feel more at home. That meant my Great Aunt Rowena's piano would have to go, as well as my grandmother's old pump organ.
The piano went to a family w/ a young budding musician but w/o the resources to buy a piano - I included a photo of Aunt Rowena w/the piano.
The pump organ went to a couple who collects them in the Ohio city where the organs were made
I love that. Musical instruments should be passed down or at least given away in that manner. To me, they're more than just 'things'. They have a life to them.
@dancinyogi Well played. My first place came with a piano because the previous tenants didn’t want to move it and the landlord didn’t want to deal with it.
(Judging by the condition of the house the last time I drove by it may very well still be there).

That's so nice. I had a beautiful antique upright grand piano that I played as a child, then it was loaned to my cousins as children to play for years, then it went to my neice and nephew to play, then it went to my cousin's children to play and they still have it. Almost every memeber of our family has had and played that piano.
I wish I had room for it and could afford to get it all properly restrung.
@Plautus Well, yes, but it also makes me feel better that it will be loved as it has been. Their daughter reminds me so much of me at that age - skinny, glasses, always sick, artsy, etc. It felt right to do this.
You're sweet. I have a soft spot for that little girl. I remember when they told me she was bullied at the bus stop. I was like, ok, who, where do they live? 🤣 🤣 🤣
