Mega Corporations have basically eaten up our democracy. We can’t afford (so we are told) to take care of the poor, build better rail systems, repair our roads, provide school supplies, healthcare, etc. But we can artificially suppress wages while those workers produce fortunes for billionaires who then get tax breaks, that rob us of the ability to care for the poor, our roads, schools, healthcare… Billionaires create poverty, not jobs. We need to rebalance the system. Make it ours, again.

@Catawu Why we aren’t all in the streets with torches and pitchforks, I don’t understand. We are being robbed blind at every turn, but they know what distracts us, so instead we fight over library books and other stupid shit.

@RockyC We have been conditioned since birth to accept what they do. Movies reinforced their superiority over us ‘little people’. Now, mass media, which has been consolidated into the hands of 5 corporations, controls the constant message and reinforcement. How do you deprogram an entire nation? Education is also controlled by the same mass media. Every single book, regardless of inaccuracies (including math), lies or omissions, is unquestioned by the masses. We even test to assure it worked

@Catawu I don’t understand how they think that this rampant capitalism is sustainable. This is all going to collapse sooner rather than later if we don’t do something.

@RockyC Capitalism without enforced regulations is destructive. This is not because of capitalism per se, it is because of lax or no regulations. Worse, over the decades, industries have been the ones to set the terms of regulations for themselves. If we had honest media, they would have informed us, but they instead, counted the ad revenues from these same industries.

@RockyC Agreed. Are you aware that you posted this identical post 3x?

@Catawu That was weird. I deleted the other two.

@RockyC It was really strange. No clue how that happened either.

@Catawu That’s what I meant by “rampant” capitalism. This shit started back in the Reagan administration.

    MaryAliciaZiff,

    @RockyC @Catawu
Reagan is the father of corporate greed? Yes, yes he is.

@MaryAliciaZiff @RockyC People should look into his membership in the Bohemian Club, and a lesser known organization called “Los Ranchitos” which was about land owners monopolizing the water and other resources in California, back as far as the 50’s. It’s where he began his financial support for his political career. None of these celebs rise to police prominence by happenstance. There’s always behind-the-curtain machinations ongoing.

    CynAq,

@Catawu @RockyC end result of capitalism is capitalism without enforcement of regulations. That is the natural direction capitalism goes when it exists.

This is part of the conditioning you’re talking about in your previous posts. The unbreakable need to defend capitalism in the face of reality.

This is capitalism in its purest form. It takes “divine decree” and replaces it with money (property) as the source of ultimate power. There is no political system immune to its power once the people think capitalism is the be all end all monetary system there is.

So yes, this IS due to capitalism per se because capitalism naturally, demonstrably leads to this. Saying otherwise is the same shit as “it’s not the fall that killed him, it was the sudden stop when he hit the ground.”

@CynAq @RockyC Regulation. Enforcement. Let’s agree this is the problem but disagree that it can’t be rectified by an enlightened citizenry.

    CynAq,

@Catawu @RockyC if we insists jumping off buildings is the only way that works to get down to street level, we will need more rules and regulations to ensure parachutes are up to snuff (and used by people) than we’d need if we, I don’t know, invented stairs or elevators.

It is easier to implement a system that needs less enlightenment than to enlighten a whole global society (as this is not a US specific problem).

    CynAq,

@Catawu @RockyC separating the very small “owner” class and the very large “worker” class isn’t the only way societies can work.

When you let this be the norm, which is the entire definition of capitalism, what we’re experiencing is the direct end result.

If all work places were worker owned democracies, this wouldn’t have happened. If all dwellings were owned by the people who lived in them, this wouldn’t have happened.

I know you’re conditioned to think “not-capitalism = dictatorship,” but that’s a meaningless equation. Capitalism is inherently dictatorial. Its only premise is “owners will get to be dictators of whatever they own.” In other words, it is the negation of democratic control and distribution of resources.

If you are scared of authoritarianism and want democracy, you can’t have an inherently dictatorial economic model as your only option of managing resources.

@RockyC Also, keep in mind that I am dyslexic and often will miss an entire word, despite (or because of) reading the same sentence 3-5x. That’s on me, but just so you know.

    Wgere,

    Librarian in the room. :ablobcatwave:

I know what you meant, but it's usually the small stuff is where it starts to go wrong.
We don't kick over the apple cart because we're sitting in it. And most have a vested interest in keeping it, the lie, alive.
