Polls are meaningless right now. But Dem strategist Chris D. Jackson is making a point here:

🚨 BREAKING A new Reuters/Ipsos poll out today shows President Biden leading Donald Trump by 4 points in the swing states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, Michigan, and North Carolina.

Will the media cover this poll as much as they have others that haven't been as favorable to Biden? 🤷

@GottaLaff
Regrettably we all know that our major media is not going to report on positive polling for Democrats like they do the negative ones which is why it's so important for us to pick up the slack on social media.

@GottaLaff Man, it is hard to get more useful information about this poll!

The bigger problem is if Trump isn't able to run due to legal problems. That puts Haley next in line, and she's leading Biden by 17 points.

Let me know when MSM polls the entire country for an accurate poll.
I've never been polled. I guess it's because I have a job and no land line.

trabex,

@GottaLaff In my state of New Hampshire, Biden is not on the ballot. But the rest of the nation presumes it's gonna be between him and Trump. Are the party conventions just rubber stamps for the elite within the parties want?

@GottaLaff 4 points up in North Carolina has gotta hurt 45...

TJmastonian,

@GottaLaff This is really telling isn't it.. US Media soft talk Biden advances and Biden Policy wins.. why? still bottom line is to Work for DEM WINS AHEAD !

mickymorse,

@GottaLaff I so not watch any magamoron "news" like fux, nbc, forbes,the hill, politico, wapo, or all the streaming propaganda screeds. The gop is criminal and a subversive evangelical/fascist cabal.

@GottaLaff Am I right to be concerned about state legislatures in these swing states ignoring the actual votes and casting their electoral vote for Trump or whichever R is the candidate?

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@Defiance Yes, although there was a court case they lost that may help prevent that.

Defiance,
@Defiance@sfba.social avatar

@GottaLaff Thanks. I need to look into this more.

Defiance,
@Defiance@sfba.social avatar

@GottaLaff

After some reading, I believe the issue to understand is a legal theory called “Independent State Legislature”.

This article addresses the concern directly, concluding that states can’t ignore the actual vote count.

There’s a potential loophole, but it looks like the recently passed “Electoral Count Reform Act” closed this loophole.

So I feel better about this issue now. Though not entirely out of the woods. FYI

I don't follow polls or who puts them out, so cannot rightly discern levels of media bias that suggest Trump gets better media coverage with them.

With that said, is it a matter of favorability or a matter of alarm when media emphasize a rise of Trump in polls? Am inclined to believe it's the latter. Or both. What sells.

What interests me is whether polls actually affect voters: E.g., Do favorable Trump polls spur anti-Trump voters, or MAGA, to eventually participate more...?

@GottaLaff I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest that some of these major media companies sre heavily invested in antacids and anti-nausea medicines. (My stomach knots up when I read the one-sided polling data.)

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@JoeAce967 Now there’s a thought.

familytechie,

@GottaLaff Well, maybe if the media only covers polls that have Trump ahead it will scare people to vote for Biden and make Trump supporters overconfident and skip voting?

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@familytechie Yeahno.

DanadasGrau,
@DanadasGrau@mastodon.social avatar

@GottaLaff @familytechie someone was just saying the other day that if you vote for a third party candidate or not vote at all, it is a vote for Trump. So if will be easier on those Trump voters. They can skip voting and it is a vote for Trump.

@GottaLaff 🤔 that looks like a list of abortion denying states, am I right? (With the exception of Michigan, obviously).
