Inside Mark Zuckerberg’s Koolau Ranch, which is to include a large underground shelter, will have its own energy and food supplies and, when coupled with land purchase prices, will cost in excess of $270 million.

I read a great article by a security consultant who counsels rich people. Basically, they kept asking: When it all (civilization) comes crashing down, what’s to stop the guys with the guns (their own security team) from taking everything they feel like taking from Richie Rich?

His answer: Not a thing.
His advice: Be nice to them now, maybe they’ll spare you later.

In a world where fossil fuels are phased out, how does Zuckerberg plan on getting supplies delivered to his apocalypse bunker?

Dirigible? Sail?
Or is the plan to have Indigenous serfs farm his food for him?

Seriously doubt Larry Ellison, on his neighboring Hawaiian island, is the sharing type.

Both are forgetting what happens to Hawaii during hurricanes.

@Npars01 @w7voa does he have enough arable land and fresh water to support the serfs who will work his rice farms?

@janxdevil @Npars01 @w7voa This is likely part of why the folks building the bunkers are over relying on the promised utility of AI.

There's this idea that if you feed it enough data you could replace everyone, every knowledge worker, you'd have robo security forces, automated farming modules, AI medical care, etc.

I'm still skeptical af about it working in a functional society. I wouldn't bet my life on it especially if I had the means and power of someone like Zuck.

Too many billionaires think they'll get a future like William Gibson's "The Peripheral"; the rich kleptocrats live, all the peasants conveniently die in a paroxym of violence, & carbon capture gizmos rebuild the atmosphere.

All while robotic slaves replace people.

It takes the full resources of a planet & its people to create & support tech now, that's not the future being built by Zuckerberg & his ilk.

They build an irradiated cinder uninhabitable by humans

These billionaires think their subterranean will render them impervious to what they're inflicting on the rest of us, but we'll see about that. 😶

@_L1vY_ I think about how most people couldn't handle a couple weeks of fake lockdowns and I can't help but laugh at billionaires who think they have the psychological fortitude to live in a self-made prison for the rest of their lives.

@_L1vY_ seems to me a subterranean bunker becomes a prison real easy with not that many people on the ground above.

@_L1vY_ @w7voa One of the best comments I ever heard about the apocalypse is that the LAST place you'd want to be when the world is falling apart is in a hole in the ground, no matter how luxurious. You're alone, you have limited resources, no matter how well stocked, and you are, in essence, trapped.
