Growing up in the 80's and 90's, our parents let us out of the house after breakfast, and no one bothered us until dinner. How can I get this as an adult?

So many expectations placed upon anything and everyone in order to live a "good" life. One must adhere to the establishment, unless one can work around them. Ultra wealthy and 24? It makes absolute sense to allow you to run your father's company. Poor and ranked top in your class? If you were as smart as you think you are, you wouldn't be poor.

There’ve been studies done showing that being in green space has a definite affect on cortisol (major stress-related hormone) levels, seeming to lower the levels. Can be a park, or natural area. Some place where there are trees. Trees are key, apparently. Even a short while can have noticeable affect, and certainly longer is better. Now could be a good time to stay a few days at a national park. It’s off-season so not as many visitors. Lodging is cheaper. Except in ski areas.
@qurlyjoe@RickiTarr Your comment about being out in nature having a beneficial effect on our cortisol levels is spot on. I can't get to the nature places anymore but I've found that stopping and touching a tree while I'm out walking in my town produces a noticeable calming effect. Sometimes I lean against it with my back and sometimes just a hand. Found it out by accident during a wheezing attack where I had to stop and catch my breath. Now I do it on purpose occasionally.

@RickiTarr In the eighties and nineties, when some of us were still in our forties, we used to complain about how as kids we used to go outside and stay there until dark, but kids now huddle around the TV and their phones and demand snacks.
