The people who designed Amazon's Kinde-to-Print self-publishing process don't know much about print, do they?

Here I am attempting to read a book that I just got in the mail and the margins on the spine side are so tiny that the first character in a line is barely visible and the margins on the outer side are good 2.5-3 cm.

I'm not sure if they've even seen a book before.

Pondering to program a very old-school ad system for my blog. Like VERY old-school. A directory with banner ads as static graphic files, PNG only. A plugin for Jekyll to randomly select banner ads when regenerating the site. That's all. No cookies, no tracking, no targeting, no JavaScript, no nothing. Just banner ads with a clickable URL. Bring back the old web :)

    Bostaden i Umeå ger förtur i kön till trogna kunder som bott mer än 5 år, som konkurrerar sinsemellan.

    Här publiceras gnäll om en som bor på Rikshem och tycker det är så svårt att hitta bostad hos bostaden.. utan någon slags insikt om att fler är i samma position och 90% av lägenheterna går till normala kön.

    Utan en prio-kö skulle det inte bara bli färre flyttar, priokön frigör ju lägenheter också, men även mycket svårare för ensamstående att flytta igen..

    The last two things I loved watching were "Sense 8" and "She Ra" (this one following a recommendation here in the !)

    What would you recommend me to watch next based on the above?

    Old stuff welcome, I likely haven't watched it - I want perhaps one episode every two weeks or so on average. Has to be available in some way in the Netherlands in English or German. Finished series preferred.

    (Things I definitely dislike: romcoms and comedy.)

    Are there therapists who specialize in helping children who are stressed out giving tech support to their parents?

    My mom is a mathematician. She can program w/ punch cards. But, she & Dad just don't keep up with tech anymore. Drives me nuts.

    Gave my dad an iPhone for Christmas. They HATE it. Probably would hate any phone. Now they say it's recording their conversations.🙄

    Dad holds down the buttons on the side when he picks it up. Activates the voice assistant... they think it's a hacker.

    @slothrop @futurebird @kritischelezer My dad’s been running Debian stable with the standard GNOME desktop for over a decade now. It’s great. Very very gradual change in look and feel and no adware or other monetization crap. Requires minimal remote tech support and if necessary it can usually be done invisibly via ssh

    Hi newbies! I'm following a lot of new people rn.

    It's a bit laggy, spellcheck will mess you up a bit, changing words. But it's easy to edit.

    Also, liking does nothing, you have to boost for others to see posts. Follow hashtags. Lots of great to follow here.

    There is a bell next to people's names, I used it a lot at first to get notifications from people I liked for boosting. More cowbell!

    Once you get going, they will show up in your feed and you can remove the bell.

    @nixCraft Predictable names are great. The traditional names were perhaps ok in ye olde days with one or two static interfaces… now you can have half a dozen different (dynamic) interfaces and predictable names eliminates a lot of guesswork.
