#crochetuk #crochetprojects2024 Thanks to the crochet groups I'm in on Facebook I've decided on a year long crochet project 🙈 a temperature blanket! I just need to decide on how wide I should make it & which time of day to take the temperature from. Skull squares are for a scarf for my eldest, which I think will also be a 2024 project because I'm not quick enough to finish it in 2023.

Three crocheted granny squares. Red and black. Black section creates a skull and red completes the square.

Another 2024 project begins. Colours chosen by Mr F and it's a blanket for him. Branching out and doing a new stitch, so far so good.

My biggest and neatest project to date! This is a gift for my cousin. We lost my uncle (her dad) at the end of 2022, this is a temperature blanket featuring the low & high temperature for each day in January 1954 (his birth year) blues & white chosen because he (and my cousin too) are big Everton FC supporters.

Large crocheted blanket. All in blues and white.
Blue and White crocheted blanket folded in four.

My fingers were itchy to start something new once I'd finished my last scarf project, so here we go again ... This time a temperature scarf for my year of birth, different colour scale to my ongoing temperature blanket for 2024. This is January of 1984, only 12 months to go 🙈

Another update. This is a temperature scarf using historical temperatures from my year of birth! This is January through to the end of May! So June - December still to do.

@followingfloss so nice, this makes a pretty unique thing!

Another completed project! My historical temperature scarf for my year of birth. This measures 11ft 6inches long, which now means I know exactly how long my 2024 temperature blanket will be because I'm doing that in the same stitch as the scarf.

A very long very colourful scarf

@followingfloss this is so cool!

Well the scarf for my eldest is finished another completed! I immediately began something else because it's addictive, we are going to be drowning in crochet projects eventually! 😅

@followingfloss You're so good at it! 🤩

@robyneatseverything aw thank you 🥰 It's definitely the most success I've ever had with some kind of crafting hobby, so it's very satisfying 🌟

It begins ... Temperature Blanket 2024, Day 1. I won't share everyday, maybe weekly after today. I'm going with the 'feels like' temperature on my weather app, so today was 3°c when I woke up, that's the blue line. The grey is just a base row and I'll end with a grey row too.

@followingfloss Looks fab! What stitch are you making it in? I used SC for mine and it came out huge. I’ll try to take a pic of it later.

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

@RomanticIsa half double-crochet (US terms not UK, not sure how I ended up learning in American 😅), in the back loop only so it will be ribbed. I am prepared for it to be gigantic but I'm actually quite excited for that. Love a big blanket for the bed!

@followingfloss This is mine. I didn’t make it wide enough so it’s sadly just for a single bed (but currently resides on our couch).

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

@RomanticIsa oh that's really lovely 🌟 I love seeing other people's creations, and the variety of the temperature blankets is brilliant

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

Week one of my temperature blanket is done. Because I'm crocheting back loops only I'm getting not only a nice ribbed effect but also a different colour presentation on each side. I think for some that might miss the point of a temperature blanket but I'm really enjoying it

One side of my temperature blanket featuring two shades of blue and a row of green.
Alternate side of my temperature blanket, still blues and greens but this one highlights a different shade of green.

MPBJulie,

@followingfloss I think this is great, looking forward to seeing how the colours change.

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

@MPBJulie thank you ☺️ me too, I've also found a place I can get historical temperatures and I'm going to make some birth year ones too! Though maybe they will be a tad smaller than this one 😅

MPBJulie,

@followingfloss that sounds amazing. I was thinking of doing a cross stitch one this year. But have got myself involved in a year long stitch along project lol.

@MPBJulie oh that looks amazing! I love the idea of and looking at completed cross stitch projects but I've never quite got the hang of it. Which probably isn't a bad thing because I'd likely just cross stitch cats and the house would be covered in what I'd made 😅

@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

Temperature blanket week 2 complete ✅ coming along nicely although will be glad to move onto a colour that isn't blue 😅 also had to include white unexpectedly as we went a bit colder than I anticipated ❄️

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

update. Week 3 of the temperature blanket is complete! At the end of each week I think it doesn't look much different & then I see the previous weeks photo on here & it's great to see the progression! So excited to see the end result!

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

Two months of crocheting a row a day in relation to the 'feels like' temperature of my weather app. Due to the stitch I've chosen to use I'm getting a different colour variation on each side. One features odd days of the month & the other even. An estimate on length today shows it's like to be around the 10ft mark when I'm done!!

My temperature blanket after 2 months, this side features even days of the month. Colour palette is mostly greens and blues with a little white.

Swirly,

@followingfloss I love this piece of work 🥰 hope every one is doing well 💕

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

@Swirly thank you ☺️ it's a bit bigger now, I'm going to share another picture once we've hit the end of March. Yes all good here thank you, hope things are well at your end too 💖

3 months of my temperature blanket done! Due to the stitch I've chosen to use I'm getting a different colour variation on each side. One features odd days of the month & the other even. January at the top, moving down to March on the sofa seats.

Crocheted blanket, range of colours including white, blue and green. Each colour relating to a daily temperature

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

4 months into my temperature blanket and it's now a third of the size it will eventually be. Lots of folks in the temperature blanket group I'm in on F'book are panicking about how big their blanket will be but I'm super excited to have a ridiculously giant blanket hanging around 😅

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

5 months of my 2024 temperature blanket done. It's getting so big it's hard to photograph, but almost halfway through and I'm still enjoying the project so it's all worth the effort.

Crochet blanket. Stripy colour pattern including green, blue, purple and grey to separate the months.

@followingfloss Oh cool! I made a temperature blanket a few years ago and it’s so much fun! I didn’t crochet a row every day though so I just used a temperature chart for the month which I think gave me the midday temperature of that particular day.

followingfloss,
@followingfloss@kinkyelephant.com avatar

@RomanticIsa yours sounds like a sensible approach. I've read through lots of people saying what they thought worked well for theirs & also what didn't & I've still decided to embark on what will likely be a massive blanket 😅 a row a day using the 'feels like' temperature on my weather app, which I think will give me a good variety of colour. On day 1 I'm very excited by the project let's see how I feel at the end of the year though 🙈😝
