@christianselig very late to this, but add one more vote for the Ricoh GR — the pocketability, image stabilization, and sharpness is SO good. A new rec though: Sony RX1 / RX1R. Get whichever of the 3 generations fits you for the full frame, incredible lens, and tiny size for what it is. The 2nd and 3rd gen models have a pop up viewfinder, but I don’t know how good they are.
To avoid all the wild prices, I went with (very) used GRIIIx and 1st gen RX1 from mpb and couldn’t be happier!
@kf It's technically superior but the main reason I want it is for some nice low effort, high quality photography, and the built in film simulations on the Fuji seem like they're in a league of their own
@christianselig so, I do have a 3rd camera, a Fuji X70! It’s essentially an X100T without a rangefinder in a smaller body. Also 100% worth looking into used while you wait, again mine came from mpb. Having each, they’re all incredible, and the jpgs are all so good, each with their own style. I paid less than $2k total for all 3 used, and their resale values hold relatively well! I did get lucky with a cheap, “broken” GRIIIx that just had a bad battery and cheap USB cable 😄
@christianselig this year I somehow walked myself from wanting an X100V up to an XT5. I’m very happy with that camera, but I still want something pocketable. If Fuji doesn’t update the X100V this year, I’ll probably pick up a Ricoh GR III.
@christianselig I burned through multiple Fuji bodies and lenses over the years and finally settled on the V. It's strictly personal and applies to my shhoting style but can't possibly think of anything I'd need more from a camera. Maybe strip the menus down to one page and ditch video capabilities. Simpler is alwyas the better for me. Yes, new sensors will always come and be superior but I can already print the V's files to large enough. Maybe I'm just an old fart now?
@christianselig I'm on the V wagon and being a happy camper but my use case is probably wastly different. Fuji has been unable to produce this camera in a quantity that'd meet the demand since day one. Seeing this track record I have some doubts about the successor's availability too.
@zltnklmr I mostly just want the IBIS for low light performance which seems like one of the only “complaints” (and even that's putting it a bit strongly) from people. And yeah I hear you on the second part, but that's kinda what I mean, if it's gonna be hard to get it now and in a year, and I'll have to pay inflated scalper prices in both cases, might as well pay for the newer model
@christianselig@marcoarment FWIW I did not find it to be a problem as long as you're not recording video. I guess it really depends on your use case - I am rarely shooting below 1/30s.
Otherwise I am really loving it. I got it about two months ago and am still amazed by the film simulation jpegs.
@Patryk@christianselig That's what made me fall in love with Fuji this year: the JPEGs straight out of their cameras are fantastic.
Best in the business by far — and I can't get other cameras' output to match the Fuji colors with any amount of post-processing that I know how to do.
My Sony full-frames took technically superior photos, but even with raw editing, I didn't love my Sony photos as much as I love what Fuji gives me with zero effort.
@christianselig the body is smaller on the xt30ii, lenses stick out more because they are interchangeable but the flexibility is worth the small cost in size. also there's a pancake lens that is basically an x100v dupe
@ents That picture is conveniently missing a lens, try to find a Fuji lens anywhere as small as the X100V’s one haha. The X100V you can actually stuff in a pocket
@ents Yeah that’s admittedly not as bad as I thought! I dunno though, the feel of the X100V just speaks to me a lot more, I already have a camera with interchangeable lenses and kinda just want a fun point and shoot
@christianselig totally understandable! the rf look is nice and so is the all in one ness- neither truly pocketable imo, that's more ricoh gr territory. just throwing this out there as a currently available and findable at msrp option!
@christianselig couldn’t agree more! But I tried as well Ricoh gr iii x model. Really powerful pocket size camera. The only downside so far I found and it was as well present on my demo model was dust inside the lens 🫠 which is a known issue
