Billionaire wealth isn't a sign of a healthy society. It's a symptom of rot. The accumulation of wealth in the hands of the few while millions struggle is an imbalance that demands attention, not admiration.

Homelessness is a policy choice.

Famine is a policy choice.

Tax evasion is a policy choice.

Pandemics are a policy choice.

Attacks on civil rights are a policy choice.

A frying planet is a policy choice.

Inaction on a coup & its funding is a policy choice.

Abandoning people to genocide is a policy choice.

If you gather a billion of anything but dollars you would be put in a mental institution. It's a hoarding issue.

@Daojoan As a coworker said to me, the rich are a cancer, sucking up everything while leaving others to struggle and die.

Individual wealth should be capped. The excess being used for redistribution to let everyone live. And it should be global. is just for megalomaniacs.

@Daojoan Never does any good to democracy either. And now more than ever, as money can not only buy influence, but we have entered the age of mass manufactured ”virtual worlds” of opinion.

phrees,

@Daojoan The very word billionaire couples the identity of the person with the value that's been generated when the truth is nobody generates that much wealth through their own efforts. The accumulation of billions is in part a collective effort, in part a natural consequence of compounding and in part a pyramid scheme in which tech bros boost each other's stock. We've just yielded power to whoever happens to be standing closest to the money tree. We should take it back.

Current events and history itself tells us two important outcomes of the condition you have cited:

  1. When governments and weapons makers treasure the economic windfalls in collective military industrial technology and refuse to negotiate, then political and military values on both sides of a world conflict collide.

Soldiers and civilians then die.

  1. Continuation of the economic disparate imbalance eventually results in revolution.

Extreme wealth accumulation is inherently exploitative and emblematic of a system of inequality, i.e. Capitalism. Such vast disparities in wealth result from Capitalisms' unjust economic structures that allow billionaires to wield disproportionate influence.
