A good "puzzle" for a point and click adventure game would be that in order to get something or do something you have to send someone a fax, and this touches off a multi-hour quest to find the one remaining fax machine in your city and be allowed to use it
@mcc Did you ever play Bureaucracy? It's the Infocom game Douglas Adams made other than Hitchhiker's Guide, the overarching goal of the game is to get the bank to register the change of address form that you fill out in the first 30 seconds
it is out of ink because of fax spam (which is why I unplugged my office's fax machine in...2017? 2018? and once watched someone try and fail to use it without offering to plug it back in)

@ChateauErin@mcc Also, let's not forget the "toxic waste" that is the transfer ribbon, unless you have a modern enough version that uses inkjet or laser. Whole lotta "fun" trying to securely dispose of that.
@mcc@mathew i own a behemoth hp laser jet and i will never give it up it is invincible hardware. we need to replace toner though. second time in 15ish years.

@mcc my new year's resolution is to figure out how to get my HP M283fdw (the f is for fax) to actually send one
my real-life example of this one is my first ever ecommerce transaction (on the long-departed QXL) where upon winning an auction I was confronted by the horror of needing either a credit card or a chequebook, neither of which I had ever even seen
