Amed Khan is an American humanitarian worker who has delivered relief to Somalia, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan, Congo etc.

When asked why he withdrew campaign support for Biden, Khan says it's simple: "ethnic cleansing is where I get off the bus, right?"

"[The Biden State Dept has] blinders on, and they’re living in some kind of alternate reality that we’ll prove in the future was inexplicable...

It was very clear to me from the beginning that the Israeli operation was based on clearing out Gaza. And they say this, themselves, the [ministers] say it out loud, right?

...the reaction from the U.S. is, yeah, it’s irresponsible. Irresponsible? The children are dead, they’re not coming back. They’re guilty of nothing."

"I crossed ISIS to go to the Chaldean Catholic communities in Iraq to rebuild their homes. I went through the Russian lines to rescue Holocaust survivors in Ukraine. I will do anything, anywhere, for anyone that needs it, and that’s my thing, right? So, how could I be a part of this?"

i post this because americans need to wrap our heads around the facts of this:

without US financial and military support, tens of thousands of palestinian children would still be alive. that is 100% on us

jhall251,

@seachanger

You don't know that. Also true that without US aid thousands of children in Palestine and elsewhere would be dead. It's a complex world and simple assertions don't really help. Imo.

@jhall251 @seachanger Without the Israeli occupation, land-theft and abhorrent economic de-development Palestinians wouldn't need American aid. And here, what we do know besides the $ 3 bn per year: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/jan/18/us-supply-weapons-israel-alleged-abuses-human-rights

jhall251,

@Heidentweet @seachanger

The rights and wrongs of the history can be argued endlessly. The reality is millions of Israeli Jews and millions of Palestinians living in the same place - either they find a way to live peacefully or the bloodbath continues - imo the blame game is not useful - finding leaders on both sides that genuinely want to figure out a solution would be useful. The current set - both sides - seem more interested in blood bath. So it seems to me.

    gocu54,

    @seachanger Where does it stop though? Let's think about this. This is a war we weren't exactly involved in until we got ourselves involved. If you're expecting that we have boots on the ground, that's not going to happen, especially for Palastine because we're already friends with Israel. The problem is that we need to figure out how to make a more balanced effert in all this. We're not after all, the world's police system, and no, its not completely on us. It's on the terrorists who caused this war. We just reacted to a situation and yes, Ben had prior knowledge of this that he could have used to stop it but he didn't and now we have this problem. We're already helping Ukraine. Can't we just fight one war at a time? and I'm not trying to be uncivilized. I know its more complicated than that, but blaming the US for a problem not in the US just doesn't make complete sense. Hell, just getting people from the US out of Gaza was a nightmare on its own. Let me know what you think? I'm genuinely curious.

    With the destruction of Gaza, the brutality is the point. It is a warning to the West Bank and Lebanon and whoever else might want to attack Isreal.
    Unfortunately the people of Gaza are made to suffer from Hamas summoning this war.
    I’m sure Hamas expected a different outcome, a greater regional war.
    It’s obvious that Hamas didn’t care about the people of Gaza, and Isreal doesn’t either.

    @seachanger
    I’m not absolving Isreal of their war crimes, nor the US of their unfettered support.
    But Hamas made a brutal and horrific attack on civilian targets, not military targets on October 7, committing war crimes of their own, taking innocent women and children hostage.
    Hamas did nothing to defend or protect the people of Gaza from an Israeli counter attack. NOTHING.
    Quite the opposite, Hamas hid among the people of Gaza, putting them in harms way.

    JoeBeam,
    @JoeBeam@mastodon.social avatar

    @seachanger
    Hamas has just as much Palestinian blood on their hands as Israel does.

    @seachanger
    Correct.
    But this current conflict, started by Hamas on October 7th with no regards to the people of Gaza or of their civilian targets in Israel is of Hamas’ making.
    I will reiterate, Hamas did nothing to prevent harm to the innocent people of Gaza from a certain retaliatory attack from Israeli forces. Hamas knew what was to come and did nothing.
    Hamas’ ultimate goal was a larger regional war.
    Hamas is not forgiven, nor is Israel.

    maggiejk,

    @seachanger They have the same blinders about the economy, I just saw Blue MAGA sharing celebration about the stock market. I don’t know many people who give a fuck about the stock market when they run out of grocery money halfway through the month.

    It’s like they’ve decided the way to win is to act like President Plump and just lie over and over and over? We are not red hats, we know better.
