As I've been saying: The border actions that Johnson now claims can do with the "stroke of a pen," without any new legislation, were very often found illegal when did them https://washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/01/30/republicans-immigration-deal-johnson-clueless/

Priscilla Alvarez:

In 2018, Trump tried to use an authority that Johnson has cited to curtail border crossings. But a federal appeals court ruled that the authority conflicts w asylum law & the authority doesn’t override it, underscoring the limits of the pres

Mike made a stab at trying to convince Biden to jump into the briar patch of criminality. They need new fodder to claim equivalency with Trump.

They want action, but laws are a hindrance? There is zero about the Republican party that is speaking to ethics, and I'm not looking for them to change. They've got to ask themselves, "Are we the baddies?"

@GottaLaff The headline is giving me…what’s a word that means “pulling my hair out while screaming into the void with enraged frustration”?

Perhaps I should write an article, entitled:
“The Washington Post keeps fumbling how to report on racist white nationalist christofascists intent on destroying democracy. Maybe they’re just incompetent?” 🙄

Democracy dies in darkness…indeed it does, WaPo.

@tiamat271 I'm constantly frustrated. I hate it.

@GottaLaff

I'm really tired of nanny state Republicans telling others what to do

@trabex Can't imagine why!

@GottaLaff

It's become increasingly clear the Tea Party movement from 2009 was just a reaction to Obama doing things, and not a fundamental desire for personal freedom.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@trabex That was increasingly clear in 2009.

@GottaLaff Republicans say government is bad because they are so bad at government.

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@MasterMischief They intentionally say that and MAKE it bad. Yes, they're bad at it, but they do not want a govt. They want a dictator. So they are trying to destroy our govt from within in order to end it and create an authoritarian system.

@GottaLaff Gosh, it's almost as if Congress needs to pass actual new laws to fix a problem they are only too happy to whip up as a such a major problem.

FFS, even if the border actions could be done by fiat - shouldn't Republicans want Biden to be legally required to act?

GottaLaff,
@GottaLaff@mastodon.social avatar

@TCatInReality Remember who we're talking about here. Republicans.

@GottaLaff
True.

Always attack. Always obstruct.
That's the way to break government and pay off your donors.
