PSA: We're two days to a possible US government shutdown.

That means NOW is the best time to get out your Blonder-Tongues and other NTSC broadcasting equipment, get them connected, and ready to go.

That way you'll be able to begin broadcasting unlicensed pirate TV the very moment the FCC goes on hiatus

@foone what about those of us who just happen to have an ATSC encoder and possibly even enough working pieces of exciters lying around to make something work

(it's my eventual plan to try lighting that up on the 70cm ham radio band just to see if that even works)

Bad news for us pirates: the senate passed a partial funding bill. Biden ain't gonna veto it, so the FCC threat remains active.

It's only a partial bill, so maybe we'll have a shutdown later this year. I remain optimistic

@foone @deviantollam although pirate hunting is one of my favorite hobbies, I will ask that any pirates out there reading this, stop stepping on active HAM nets.

I’ve heard too many trivia nights cut short due to some clown intentionally disrupting the net.

A simple “how do ya do?” from an unlicensed operator when the net control opens up for “other members” would probably put a little smirk on their face and doesn’t have the potential to impede emergency message relay.

astra,

@foone holdon what happened?

foone,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@astra the US government is nearing a shutdown over budget issues again. it happens

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

@foone oh, again? They keep threatening to do that, someone should just call the bluff

graphite,

@foone us gov shutdown?!? huh?

mimic,
@mimic@the.gayest.dev avatar

@graphite @foone it's a silly thing that happens from time to time

graphite,

@mimic @foone that doesn't clarify this at all tho?? why does this happen-

the us are weird

mimic,
@mimic@the.gayest.dev avatar

@graphite @foone it happens when the government cannot approve a budget in time
As such theres no funding allocated and non essential services go on hiatus until a budget is passed

graphite,

@mimic @foone isn't that half-anyarchy :anarcho_punk:

foone,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@graphite @mimic although I'd like to say, as someone who has worked for two organizations described as "barely functioning anarchies" (the US government and Google), and also knows some anarchists: calling anything either of those places does "anarchy" is an insult to anarchy

@foone I am patiently waiting for the moment I can rebroadcast without express written permission of Major League Baseball.

I've long had implied oral permission, but that means nothing until we have complete breakdown of society.

@foone But who can I broadcast it to? Nobody has analog TVs anymore.

foone,
@foone@digipres.club avatar

@fozztexx how dare you
I have at least 4 devices capable of receiving analog TV broadcasts in my office alone!
